Description
Arapahoe County Department of Human Services has openings for Social Caseworker B positions working for the Child and Adult Protection Services (CAPS) Division. The Child and Adult Protection Services Division provides protective services to children and adults, as well as foster care, adoption, adolescent services, teen parent programs and other services that help create strong, effective families.
The ideal applicant will have high energy and enthusiasm with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. They should enjoy flexibility and variety in their job duties and have a desire to work with families and other professionals in a team setting.Duties
Conducts assessments of safety and risk; determines if situations warrant the recommendation of placing children outside the home; supervises placement of children and coordinates parent/child visits; determines when and if a child should be recommended to return to their home.
Makes evaluation and assessment of need for services; provides crisis intake and/or develops long-term case plans appropriate to the child(ren) and family. Monitors progress of clients and modifies case plans as needed.
Participates in staffings with school, mental health facilities, child protection review teams, and other professionals involved with the family members.
Provides individual or family case management on an ongoing or crisis basis for children and their parents who are experiencing severe problems in the parents-child relationship.
Makes collateral contacts with such community resources such as law enforcement and medical personnel to obtain additional information, coordinate services, or secure their assistance.
Gathers and consolidates background information to present as documentation for court hearings, as progress reports in judicial reviews, or as summaries in facilitating appropriate placements.
Attends court hearings; confers with lawyers, children, parents, witnesses, and significant others in reference to their respective roles.
Serves as information and referral source to other employees and to the public.
Provides a variety of ancillary assignments as needed including preparing and maintaining client records and completing required forms and reports.
Enters data and all case contacts into Trails.
Testify in court hearings as necessary
Attends various staffing and meetings.
Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Excellent organizational skills.
Ability to analyze and interpret governmental and legal regulations.
Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to court, managers, customers, other agencies, co-workers, and the general public via fax, telephone, and email.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and state and county computer systems. Ability to learn various applications.
Ability to establish and maintain harmonious professional relationships with other employees, outside agencies and customers.
Ability to work in a high volume, high stress environment.Requirements
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Masters in Social Work
or
Bachelors of Social Work or a Masters degree in Sociology, Psychology, Human Services, Guidance and Counseling and/or Child Development with one (1) year of post-degree paid experience in social casework.
or
Bachelors of Arts or Bachelors of Science in Sociology, Psychology, Human services, Guidance and Counseling and/or Child Development, plus two (2) years of post-degree paid experience in social casework.SPECIAL QUALIFICATION:
Must have already successfully completed the Colorado Pre-Service Training Academy program or if hired must successfully complete and pass all required State of Colorado training in order to be considered for future employment.Supplemental Information
Must also successfully pass pre-employment criminal background check, motor vehicle check, and post-employment fingerprint check.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
Reliable transportation is required as you will be utilizing your own personal vehicle for visiting families' homes, transporting children, and attending court. You will be reimbursed for mileage.
