ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
Behavioral Health and Recovery Services is committed to behavioral health principles that are responsive to both mental health and alcohol and drug issues. Our scope of services includes, but is not limited to, inpatient and outpatient psychiatric services, alcohol and other drug services, behavioral education and prevention, public guardian functions and advocacy. We offer these services throughout Stanislaus County at Behavioral Health and Recovery Services managed sites and partner with community agencies and other County departments.
Stanislaus County Behavioral Health and Recovery Services is considered a Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA) for mental health and most clinics are National Health Service Corps (NHCS) approved sites for candidates interested in applying for student loan repayment program. ABOUT THE POSITION
Stanislaus County is establishing an eligibility list for Full-Time and Extra-Help/On-Call Psychiatric Nurse II for the Department of Behavioral Health & Recovery Services. Psychiatric Nurses can be assigned, based on departmental needs, to one of our various program sites serving children, adults and older adults.
RECRUITMENT BONUS
Newly hired nurses will be eligible to receive a Recruitment Bonus for up to $3,000.00 in three (3) installments. The payments will be made in installments as listed below:- $1000.00 after 12 calendar months of full time employment.
- $1000.00 after 24 calendar months of full time employment.
- $1000.00 after 36 calendar months of full time employment.

Typical Tasks
- Assist in the promotion and maintenance of quality care through the review of clinical documentation;
- Meet with clients to monitor for medication efficacy and side effects;
- Follow through with recommendations from the physician in the medication management of clients;
- Prepare clinical documentation on a daily basis on multiple clients;
- Complete pharmacy orders;
- Complete pre-authorizations for prescriptions;
- Administer IM medications, also including charting responses and progress in accordance with treatment plans and providing education on physical and psychological effects of medication and its relationships to the overall treatment plan;
- May assist in completing referrals to other agencies;
- May perform initial assessments;
- Provide support to clients and their families;
- Provide crisis assessments and 5150 referrals, crisis stabilization and follow-up communication;
- Utilize an electronic health record for documentation purposes;
- Adhere to strict timelines with documentation through same day notification;
- May provide community presentations and education;
- May identify documentation-related problems or appropriateness of stay based upon the medical record;
- May do data entry using Microsoft Access and some Microsoft Excel;
- Distribute documentation efforts utilizing the Teleforms system;
- Adhere to confidentiality standards for BHRS and other agencies;
- Participate on Quality Management teams with other disciplines and agencies;
- Participate in promoting positive customer relations; and
- May act as a team leader.
Minimum Qualifications (Skills, Ability, Knowledge, Education/Experience)
SKILL/ABILITIES
- Establish rapport and communicate with empathy toward mentally ill individuals;
- Establish and maintain effective communication with other mental health professionals;
- Keep accurate medical records and prepare clear and concise nursing reports;
- Provide consultation to colleagues and other participants in the program; and
- Deal with people who may be combative.
- Psychodynamic principles and fundamentals of psychotherapy;
- Basic diagnostic categories of mental illness;
- Psychopharmacology; and
- Disease entities and interventions, and nursing skills and procedures.
- Graduation from an accredited school or registered nursing program; AND
- Valid License as a Registered Nurse issued by the State of California; AND
- BLS CPR for Healthcare Providers; AND
- One year or more paid experience as a psychiatric nurse or trainee.
- Applicants must possess and maintain a valid California Driver's License and remain free from repeated preventable accidents.

- CERT is a 24-hour, seven day a week program, and shift work will be expected (AM, PM and NOC). Persons interested should possess sophisticated diagnostic and assessment skills.
