Purpose
This position is responsible for the operation of assigned medium equipment.
Essential Job Functions
Operates and maintains medium motorized equipment.
Mows the city's canals and ditches with boom mower or bush hog.
Operates tandem dump truck. Operates backhoe.
Repairs or replaces underground stormwater pipes; replaces or repairs manhole rings or tops; repairs erosion problems.
Transports equipment to job sites. Inspects equipment before use to ensure necessary repairs are made. Inspects job sites for possible hazards.
Responds to customer inquires and refers customer complaints to supervisor.
Ensures proper equipment maintenance; performs minor repairs as necessary.
Responds to emergency situations during and after normal work hours.
Performs other related duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED; with two years of medium equipment operation and maintenance experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must possess a valid commercial driver's license.
Additional RequirementsBackground investigation, including supervised drug screen, post offer/pre-employment medical screen; a motor vehicle report will be conducted, and driving history must meet the standards outlined by the City of Savannah; and verification of education, certifications, and licenses required prior to employment. The final score on this examination will consist of a rating of education and experience, plus veterans' preference points, if eligible. The names of all competitors rated eligible for appointment will be placed on the proper register according to their final scores.Additional Information
