Purpose
This position is responsible for participating in the maintenance of the city stormwater system.
Essential Job Functions
Performs manual labor in the installation, maintenance, and repair of the stormwater system.
Applies herbicides to canals and ditches. Inspects and operates assigned truck; completes daily work and vehicle inspection reports.
Maintains chemical herbicide inventory.
Assists in the construction of concrete catch basins.
Helps set up portable traffic control devices at work sites.
Attends safety training and other required classes and meetings; assists supervisors in and directing maintenance workers and temporary employees.
Responds to emergency situations during and after normal work hours; serves as a member of the city's critical workforce for disaster response.
Performs other related duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED; with one year of experience in grounds and construction maintenance; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must possess' a valid commercial driver's license.
Additional RequirementsBackground investigation, including supervised drug screen, post offer/pre-employment medical screen; a motor vehicle report will be conducted, and driving history must meet the standards outlined by the City of Savannah; and verification of education, certifications, and licenses required prior to employment. The final score on this examination will consist of a rating of education and experience, plus veterans' preference points, if eligible. The names of all competitors rated eligible for appointment will be placed on the proper register according to their final scores.Additional Information
