Position Information

Plans, directs, and administers the psychological services program for the Honolulu Police Department; serves as principal resource in providing expert professional psychology services and advisory to departmental administrators on various matters; and performs other related duties as required.

Duties include but are not limited to:  planning, organizing, directing, evaluating, and implementing various psychological services programs for the department; establishing policies and procedural manuals; developing and recommending operating guidelines and standards; maintaining oversight of all psychodiagnostic, psychotherapeutic, consultation, prevention, training and research activities; providing supervision of police psychologists and maintaining a program of supervision for police psychological assistants; investigating and recommending denial of claims on behalf of the department for employees regarding injuries or illnesses; providing expert testimony in court and hearings as required; planning, developing, evaluating and implementing pre-employment psychological evaluations of applicants for selected positions with the Honolulu Police Department; establishing standards and procedures for evaluations; planning, developing, evaluating and conducting psychological fitness-for-duty evaluations for employees and establishing procedures and standards for fitness evaluations; selecting, administering, analyzing, and interpreting results of psychodiagnostic tests.

There is one vacancy with the Honolulu Police Department, Administrative Bureau.  On occasion, accompanies officers on routine patrol and to hazardous situations.  Subject to night, weekend, holiday work, and on-call 24 hours per day for emergency situations requiring professional consultation.  This list may be used to fill future vacancies in this department.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a doctoral degree in psychology, which included a clinical psychology or police psychology internship.
 

Verification Requirement:  Applicants must submit evidence of completion of all requirements for a doctoral degree in psychology, to include completion of a clinical psychology or police psychology internship (i.e., reproduced copy of diploma and/or official transcript which shows the embossed seal from an APA approved program or a regionally accredited institution of higher education) within 7 days of filing this application in order to be given credit.  Documents will not be returned.  Mail or drop off:  Department of Human Resources, 650 South King Street, 10th Floor, Honolulu, HI  96813.
 
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Two years of registered professional psychology experience providing diagnosis and direct clinical psychology services, one of which must have been representative of the next lower level (i.e., professional police psychological services).

License Requirement:
1.  License to practice psychology in the State of Hawaii, prior to appointment; and
2.  Possession of a valid driver's license, prior to appointment.
