Equipment Operator I - Water/Wastewater

The purpose of this position is to operate heavy equipment and machinery to assist in the maintenance and repair of the City's sewer lines and residential water services.  This is accomplished by preparing machinery and equipment for use, locating lines, replacing meters, performing preventative maintenance, repairing equipment, and assisting department crew with manual tasks.

Performs maintenance and repair to water and wastewater systems by operating heavy machinery and equipment such as dump trucks, backhoes, jet trucks, and loaders; installing water and sewer taps; changing valves and fire hydrants; replacing meters; clearing service lines; flushing hydrants; and laying grass sod to restore work area.

 

Valid Texas Commercial Driver's License; high school diploma or equivalent, supplemented by one year of experience operating equipment or performing construction, and repair work and/or refuse collection; ability to work in all weather conditions and push, pull and/or lift items weighing approximately 50 lbs. required. 

Subject to exposure to dust, fumes, vibration, noise, and dirty working conditions.  Essential personnel may require 24-hour call-out for emergency or hazardous situations.
