Job Description
- The City of Boca Raton is seeking a
Utilities Network Crewchief
POSITION WILL BE POSTED OPEN CONTINUOUS UNTIL SUFFICIENT APPLICATIONS HAVE BEEN RECEIVED.
GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:Performs difficult semiskilled work overseeing crews and participating in the work involving the installation, inspection, repair, and maintenance of water and sewer lines and/or appurtenances and lift station equipment; does related work as required. Work is performed under general supervision. Supervision is exercised over an assigned work crew.TYPICAL FUNCTIONS:Assigns and supervises the work of semiskilled and/or skilled workers and equipment operators and participates in the inspection, installation, repair and/or replacement, maintenance, and construction of water and sewer lines, lift station appurtenances, and related facilities;Performs or assists in performing more difficult repairs and maintenance tasks;Makes line taps;Locates and raises meters and valves;Installs, replaces, and removes water meters - makes bores under roadway;Reads utility plans and atlases;Locates water and sewer mains;Televises sewer lines and documents information;Reviews sewer videos for infiltration, blockages, deflections, breaks, and lateral information;Repairs and maintains pumps, valves, blowers, filters, screens, emergency motors, generators, and other equipment;Pulls pumps and replaces seals and impellers;Ensures vehicles are stocked with tools and inventory items; andCompletes work order documentation in a timely manner.RELATED TASKS:Trains and instructs staff;May be required to work overtime and/or be on call;Dislodge sewer line blockages;Performs landscaping and surface restoration at job site;Inform residents and customers of precautionary boil water notices;Conducts and documents fire hydrant flushing;May operate trucks, backhoes, vactors, tapping machines, TV line equipment, and other equipment in connection with above tasks;Installs backflow prevention devices;Reads meters and gauges;Performs confined space entry;;Performs related tasks as required.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:Thorough knowledge of the methods and techniques used in the installation, replacement, maintenance, repair, and/or construction of water and sewer lines; thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work; general knowledge of the repair and maintenance of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical components of lift stations; ability to assign and supervise the work of others; ability to maintain records and prepare reports; ability to skillfully use the specialized tools and operate equipment related to water, sewer, and lift station repair and maintenance; ability to assess situations and take proper remedial actions; ability to work independently; ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form; and ability to perform semiskilled labor for extended periods, often under adverse conditions.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:A high school diploma or GED. Considerable experience in maintenance, repair and/or construction of water and/or sewer lines and/or lift stationsSPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:Must possess a Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with no more than six points in the last three (3) years. Must possess a minimum of an FDEP approved Water Distribution System Operator License Level 3 and a Wastewater Collection C Certification. Abstained from the use of cigarettes, cigars, and other tobacco products for at least one year prior to their date of hire, and shall abstain from the use of tobacco products at all times during the period of their employment with the City while both on and off duty.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Must be able to lift, carry and push articles weighing up to 50 lbs. Must be able to wear hard hat/helmet, safety glasses, goggles, respirator, safety shoes/boots, hearing protectors, welder's helmet, face shield, safety harness, safety vest, and gloves. Exposure to extreme temperatures, animals/insects, electrical hazards, confined spaces, heights, noise, vibration, dust, vapors, fumes, mist, smoke, toxic metals,
poisons, irritants, moving mechanical parts, and bloodborne pathogens.
