Description

This position is responsible for administering appropriate emergency medical treatment to victims of accidents and other life-threatening situations, assisting with exterior firefighting tasks, maintaining emergency medical equipment/vehicles, and assisting with emergency medical training.

Examples of Duties

Render emergency and lifesaving medical assistance to those in need; Respond to fires, emergency medical, and other life-threatening situations; transport injured or sick person to appropriate care facility; extricate victims of accidents when necessary; prepare and complete required reports and logs including patient care reports; respond to fire alarms and medical calls and performs duties of a Paramedic; supervise and direct Emergency Medical Technicians at emergency sites; administer medication to victims on site and in transit to medical facility if necessary and as approved by the medical director and/or doctor; ensure the proper functioning of all emergency medical equipment and vehicles through regular checks; ensure adequate inventory supply aboard emergency medical vehicles through regular checks; order needed supplies and medication; maintain current state certification through continuing education; assist training personnel with emergency medical and fire fighting training of Firefighters and Emergency Medical Technicians; perform related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from High School or GED equivalent. Must obtain certification as a State of Georgia Basic Firefighter (Module I) within first twelve months of employment; certified as a Georgia Paramedic; must have a valid Georgia Driver's License; must obtain a Class B endorsement or equivalent within the first twelve months of employment; must continually complete annual certification hour requirements for Georgia Certified Firefighter and Georgia certified Paramedic. 

Knowledge, Skill, Abilities/ Supplemental Information

Knowledge of basic and advanced emergency medical and life-sustaining techniques including cardiac care, trauma and shock care, ventilation and other CPR techniques; knowledge of basic algebra, pharmacology and chemistry for the administration of drug modalities; knowledge of medical terminology; knowledge of state and Henry County basic fire fighting and life rescue procedures and practices; knowledge of the geography of Henry County and the road system; skill in the administration of emergency medical techniques and in the use of specialized equipment associated with advanced life support; skill in extrication techniques and in patient assessment; skill in dealing with emergency situations and victims of trauma; skill in performing general mechanical maintenance and dexterity in operating emergency vehicles, specialized emergency medical equipment,fire equipment, and specialized life rescue equipment.
