Description
- The City of Norfolk's Maritime Center is seeking to hire experienced Maritime Center Specialists I for Custodial Support at Nauticus. The Maritime Center Specialist I will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the Maritime Center. Work involves cleaning restrooms, removing trash, maintaining floors, and cleaning all general spaces and offices connected to the Maritime Center.
Nauticus is an exciting interactive science and technology center that explores the naval, economic, and nautical power of the sea. Home of the Battleship Wisconsin, Nauticus features Battleship Wisconsin-related exhibits, hands-on exhibits, national-caliber traveling exhibits, HD films on a giant screen, sharks, the Hampton Roads Naval Museum, and more. Essential Functions

Essential functions include, but are not limited to:- Performs frequent cleaning of both public and private areas.
- Maintains the cleanliness of the interior of the facility by polishing, dusting, mopping, vacuuming, and keeping areas free of trash.
- Preserves the cleanliness of the exterior of the facility by keeping all areas free of litter.
- Maintains cleanliness of all restrooms.
- Ensures each facility is stocked with supplies and all equipment is in good working order.
- Empties trash receptacles, replaces liners and removes all collected materials to the designated area.
- Interacts with guests in a friendly, helpful and positive manner.
- Assists guests having special problems, questions or complaints.
- Maintains thorough knowledge of all Nauticus facilities, exhibits, programming and policies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience
- Work requires the ability to read and understand written instructions, to understand operational, technical, or office processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to less than high school or equivalency.One (1) year of experience in custodial or housekeeping services.
The preferred candidate will possess high school diploma or equivalent and experience working with floor cleaning equipment. In addition, the preferred candidate will have the ability to:- Pay attention to detail.
- Follow direction for completing cleaning work plans.
- Maintain a safe and clean environment.
- Deliver excellent guest services.
- Maintain a quality guest experience.
- Effectively work in a team environment.
Additional Information & Requirements
- Work Hours: Various shifts Monday through Sunday, with some evenings, weekends, and holidays required based on scheduled events. 20 hours per week approximately.

- Retirement If you are hired October 5, 2010 or after to a position with City of Norfolk Retirement System benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.
