Description
- The Child Protection Division of the Human Services and Public Health (HSPH) department seeks to fill multiple Child Protection Social Worker vacancies. The primary functions of the positions are listed below, but each individual vacancy may have specialized duties and responsibilities depending on the area of assignment: Intake, Investigations, Case Management, and Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) Case Management.

New Child Protection Social Workers (CPSW) will participate in the induction training on Hennepin County's policies, procedures and practices as well as mandated Department of Human Services training. This will include instructor-led training, court room training, job shadowing other CPSWs on a rotational basis, and close supervision while receiving initial case assignments.
Most positions require a valid driver's license; daily access to reliable transportation sufficient to transport clients and attend meetings; ability to work occasional evenings and weekends throughout Hennepin County. Some positions will require working in a 24/7 environment including overnights, weekend, and holidays.

Internal Supervision for LICSW licensure is available at no cost to the Child Protection Social Worker.
The full salary for this job class is $52,474.24 - $87,580.48 annually. Salary and paid time off (PTO) are based upon education and experience.The primary duties and responsibilities of this position include:
- Intake CPSWs obtain and assess information from reports made by phone, email, fax, or in person to determine whether the report constitutes alleged child maltreatment as defined by the State Department of Human Services.
- Investigation CPSWs conduct investigations/assessments of alleged maltreatment.
- Case Management CPSWs provide direct social work services to families in which abuse or neglect has been reported in order to carry out the statutory mandate to investigate, protect children from further harm, and safeguard and enhance the welfare of abused/neglected children.
- ICWA Case Management CPSWs provide service to Native American families and are responsible for complying with the mandates contained in the Federal Indian Child Welfare Act and the Minnesota Indian Family Preservation Act.
Best Qualified Candidates will have:
- One of the following:
- A bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, sociology, or human services, and 18 semester or more of graduate work in the above areas, and one year or more of full-time experience as a social worker in child welfare.
- Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, sociology, or human services, and two years or more of full-time experience as a social worker in child welfare.
- Obtained licensure or be eligible for licensure by the Minnesota Board of Social Work.
- Knowledge of and experience working with child protection services and programs, including Minnesota statues related to child abuse; work or internship experience with a county child protection service agency.
- Internship and/or volunteer experience in a social services environment.
- Experience:
- Developing care and case plans that meet the needs of and ensure safety and stability for clients and families.
- Partnering with social workers, departmental staff, collateral resources and others to develop work agreements and outcome-focused relationships to assist clients/families in achieving their goals.
- Providing comprehensive social worker case management services with children and families from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing including phone skills to obtain accurate data from reports, and writing skills to clearly and concisely record the information.
- Bilingual skills in English and another language(s).
- Advanced skill in a variety of computer applications including Microsoft Word, Internet Explorer, MGA, SSIS, ECF, and/or comparable programs.
- Ability to demonstrate excellent judgment and work in a team environment.
