Purpose of Announcement
- EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO ESTABLISH AN EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL ONE (1) CURRENT EAST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN THE DEPARTMENT OF DRAINAGE.
This employment list may also be used for FUTURE East & West Jefferson vacancies in various Departments. Kind of Work
The purpose of this position is to inspect the readiness of stationary diesel engines for protecting against flooding conditions in the event of heavy rains. Employee performs skilled troubleshooting, diagnosis, and maintenance on stationary diesel engines, pumps, air compressors, and related auxiliary equipment, i.e., changing oil, greasing engines, packing bearings, changing filters and injection lines. Dismantles machinery, using hoists, hand and power tools, repairing or replacing worn or broken parts; performs skilled repair, rebuilding, and parts replacement on stationary diesel engines, pumps, air compressors and auxiliary equipment, i.e. air starters, transfer pumps, regulator valves, starter valves, safety shut off valves, vacuum pumps, and generators. Adheres to established preventive maintenance programs and schedules; provides written reports and recommendations regarding maintenance programs and equipment capabilities and maintenance requirements. Employee will be required to work in the Bucket Truck while on site. Employee will be responsible for driving to and from, and performing work at various locations throughout Jefferson Parish. This position is also an essential, emergency duty status worker and may not be relieved of duty when the Parish President or his designee recommends a voluntary or mandatory evacuation of Jefferson Parish. Position requires driving of a Parish vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record will be given preference.
Minimum Qualifications For Admission to Examination
Considerable, verifiable journeyman level experience in the repair and maintenance of large (350 HP and above) diesel engines.

The examination may consist of a written test, a rating of training and experience, an oral panel interview or any combination thereof. Acceptable applicants will be notified of the time, date, and place of any assembled testing. Applicants must supply complete and accurate information concerning their training and experience including a detailed description of their work experience, the names and addresses of all previous employers and the dates of employment. The information is subject to verification and the Personnel Department reserves the right to determine the quality and quantity of education and experience claimed for credit.
