Purpose of Announcement

EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO SUPPLEMENT THE EXISTING EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL ONE (1) CURRENT WEST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN THE WATER DEPARTMENT AND ONE (1) CURRENT WEST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN THE SEWERAGE DEPARTMENT.

This employment list will also be used for FUTURE East & West Jefferson vacancies in various Departments. 

Kind of Work

Employee performs semi-skilled and skilled work involving the installation, maintenance, testing, and repair of such equipment as pumps, electric motors, blowers, humidifiers, variable speed drives, compressors, electronic/electrical controls, etc. Work is performed in both the shop and field. For the current vacancy, the employee will troubleshoot, repair, and install pneumatic controls, motors, pumps, drive shafts, valves, air compressors, and piping in Westbank Sewerage Wastewater Treatment Plants.  Position requires driving of a Parish vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record will be given preference. This position is also an essential, emergency duty status worker and may not be relieved of duty when the Parish President or his designee recommends a voluntary or mandatory evacuation of Jefferson Parish.

NOTE: Selective certification of eligibles with a valid Louisiana Class D driver's license or higher will be used in filling some vacancies.

Minimum Qualifications For Admission to Examination

Current, permanent civil service status with Jefferson Parish; plus experience in a lower class assigned to assist a Pump Equipment Mechanic in the performance of the above duties; and certification in writing by the appointing authority of demonstrated capability of journeyman-level work.
OR
Six months of verifiable, satisfactory, full-time, paid, journeyman-level experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of various types of pumps and electric motors; including the responsibility for independently troubleshooting mechanical failures.
 
PREFERRED: Possession of a high school diploma or high school equivalency certificate.

Kind of Examination

(ENTRANCE AND PROMOTIONAL)

The examination will consist of a written test, weighted 100%. It is designed to measure knowledge of and ability to perform maintenance and repair of pumps, motors, and related equipment. Applicants should supply complete and accurate information concerning their previous experience including a detailed description of the work, the names and addresses of all previous employers, and the dates of employment. The Personnel Department reserves the right to determine the quality and quantity of education and experience claimed for credit.
