- Provides general information to customers for various city services (such as water, sewer, potholes, ditches, culverts, traffic signals and signs, dangerous buildings, weeded lots) or transfers calls to appropriate City personnel.
- Researches, analyzes and resolves customers' problems and inquiries.
- Assists in locating personnel in the City of Houston to respond to citizens' requests for city services.
- Receives telephone calls using the automatic call distribution system and computer-based work management system to provide customers information on services requested.
- May receive calls for non-dispatch police services.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Designs and implements database formats through the analysis of data requirements. Schedules and coordinates routine maintenance of the application database.
CORE FUNCTIONS
Supports SQL server and Oracle 9i/10g databases. Performs database backups, maintenance, tuning, capacity planning, upgrades, etc., as required by the application development group. Works closely with the application development group, application developers and business process owners throughout the department. Designs and implements database format through analysis of data requirements. Creates and enforces development standards/procedures to guarantee acceptable database performance levels. Documents application database design and structure to provide substantial support for statements made or applications proposed. Ensures database integrity by setting up database backup and recovery procedures. Designs, implements and supports a new data warehouse and related data marts-conceptual, logical, and physical.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc.
Duties
MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, Mathematics or a related field.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Four years of experience in data processing including systems design, programming, and database application and management is required.

Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates certified as an Oracle Database 10g Administrator. Working knowledge of SQL, stored procedures, triggers, data import and export. Experienced in Oracle 9i/10g using Oracle PL/SQL is necessary. Strong knowledge in SQL server clusters, DTS, backup and recovery concepts. Knowledge of XML, Microsoft SQL server AS400 DB2, ASP, .NET and RPG is a plus.
