Purpose of Announcement

EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO SUPPLEMENT THE EXISTING EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL THREE (3) CURRENT WEST JEFFERSON VACANCIES AND ONE (1) CURRENT EAST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN VARIOUS DEPARTMENTS.

THIS EMPLOYMENT LIST WILL ALSO BE USED FOR FUTURE EAST & WEST JEFFERSON VACANCIES AS THEY OCCUR.

Kind of Work

Employee may operate: Large tandem dump trucks (8 yards and over), maintenance trucks, trash trucks, trucks equipped with tandem axles, and/or any truck that requires a Louisiana Class "B" CDL to operate.  This position is also an essential, emergency duty status worker and may not be relieved of duty when the Parish President or his designee recommends a voluntary or mandatory evacuation of Jefferson Parish.

NOTE: Some positions may be required to operate a truck while towing a trailer; in which case selective certification of eligibles with a Louisiana Class "A" CDL would be used in filling those vacancies.

Minimum Qualifications For Admission to Examination

Possession of a current Louisiana Class B (or higher) Commercial Driver's License (CDL)* and an acceptable driving record.

*NOTE: A valid Class B (or higher) Commercial Driver's License (CDL) from a state other than Louisiana is acceptable for application; however, once an employment offer is extended, an applicant has ten (10) days to obtain the required Louisiana CDL.  Failure to obtain a Louisiana CDL will disqualify an applicant for permanent employment in this position.

JEFFERSON PARISH CIVIL SERVICE BENEFITS

Vacation (Annual Leave)
Employees accumulate one half day of paid vacation for every two weeks worked.
Leave accrual rates increase with years of service. Any unused annual leave is
usually paid upon separation from Parish Employment.

Sick Leave
Employees accumulate one half day of paid sick leave for every two weeks worked.
Sick leave is available for personal illness, injury or medical consultations.

Holidays
Nine paid official holidays are observed, plus any holidays declared by Parish Officials.

Life Insurance
All regular employees receive a life insurance policy equal to one year's salary.
Extra insurance may be purchased.

Medical Insurance
An HMO medical insurance plan is avalable for employees and their
dependents. Jefferson Parish pays 80% of the premium for employees and 50% of
the premiums for dependents.


A Flexible Benefits Plan
Employees have the opportunity to save money by paying for health
insurance and optional insurance with pre-tax dollars. A Flexible Savings
Account for Medical Expenses and Dependent Care is also available.

Retirement
Most regular employees belong to the Parochial Employees' Retirement
System instead of the Social Security System. For employees hired after
January 01, 2007, a pension calculated at 3% of salary per year of service
is provided upon retirement at age 67 with 7 years of service, age 62 with
10 years of service, or age 55 with 30 years of service.

Tenure Payment
Employees are paid $25 per year of service in December of each year.
Employees must have worked two years before the first check is paid.


Deferred Compensation Plan(457b plan)
Similar to 401K programs, the 457b Deferred Plan allows employees to defer
up to $14,000 of pretax income each year to supplement retirement savings.
Pre-tax contributions can be cashed in upon retirement or termination without
penalty. This plan is provided by Nationwide Retirement Solutions 1-877-677-3678.

Special leaves of absence for military service, maternity leave, etc.
