Purpose of Announcement

EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO ESTABLISH AN EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL ONE (1) CURRENT EAST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN THE SEWERAGE DEPARTMENT AND ONE (1) CURRENT EAST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN THE DRAINAGE DEPARTMENT.

This employment list will also be used for FUTURE East & West Jefferson vacancies in various Departments. 

Kind of Work

Under general supervision, the purpose of the position is to perform skilled electrical maintenance and repair on treatment plant and lift station pump mechanical and equipment devices or the drainage pump stations electrical systems. Employees in this classification troubleshoot and diagnose electrical equipment malfunctions, and determine need for repair or replacement of electrical parts accordingly. Maintenance responsibilities consist of routine tasks, i.e., checking voltage and amperage levels, inspecting wiring conditions in control panels and boards. Position ensures compliance with established safety and accident prevention standards. Performs related work as directed. This position is also an essential, emergency duty status worker and may not be relieved of duty when the Parish President or his designee recommends a voluntary or mandatory evacuation of Jefferson Parish. Position requires driving of a Parish vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record will be given preference.

NOTE: Some positions may require driving of a Parish vehicle necessitating a class D license, thus possession of a valid Class D Driver's license and acceptable driving record will be given preference for those particular positions.

Minimum Qualifications For Admission to Examination

Possession of a current Class C or higher Jefferson Parish Electrical license*; OR possession of a current Electrical Work (Statewide) license* issued by the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors (LSLBC).**
 
PLUS, significant (at least nine months), full-time, verifiable, paid work experience in the repair and maintenance of high voltage electrical apparatus (480-4160 volts) and industrial/plant equipment, including electro-mechanical and programmable motor control panels and pneumatic control systems and devices. Work experience must demonstrate the ability to troubleshoot and read schematic diagrams on the stated equipment. Some positions require knowledge of programmable logic controllers (PLCs).

NOTE:
*Proof of a current and valid passing score on the licensing exam is acceptable for application.
**A Jefferson Parish Electrical license is required for employment in this position. A current Louisiana Electrical Work (Statewide) license (or current and valid passing score on the examination) is acceptable for application; however, once an employment offer is extended, an applicant has ten (10) days to obtain the required Class C or higher Jefferson Parish Electrical license. Failure to obtain a Class C or higher Jefferson Parish Electrical license will disqualify an applicant for permanent employment in this position.

The examination will consist of a rating of training and experience weighted 100%.

Vacation (Annual Leave)
Employees accumulate one half day of paid vacation for every two weeks worked.
Leave accrual rates increase with years of service. Any unused annual leave is
usually paid upon separation from Parish Employment.

Sick Leave
Employees accumulate one half day of paid sick leave for every two weeks worked.
Sick leave is available for personal illness, injury or medical consultations.

Holidays
Nine paid official holidays are observed, plus any holidays declared by Parish Officials.

Life Insurance
All regular employees receive a life insurance policy equal to one year's salary.
Extra insurance may be purchased.

Medical Insurance
An HMO medical insurance plan is avalable for employees and their
dependents. Jefferson Parish pays 80% of the premium for employees and 50% of
the premiums for dependents.


A Flexible Benefits Plan
Employees have the opportunity to save money by paying for health
insurance and optional insurance with pre-tax dollars. A Flexible Savings
Account for Medical Expenses and Dependent Care is also available.

Retirement
Most regular employees belong to the Parochial Employees' Retirement
System instead of the Social Security System. For employees hired after
January 01, 2007, a pension calculated at 3% of salary per year of service
is provided upon retirement at age 67 with 7 years of service, age 62 with
10 years of service, or age 55 with 30 years of service.

Tenure Payment
Employees are paid $25 per year of service in December of each year.
Employees must have worked two years before the first check is paid.


Deferred Compensation Plan(457b plan)
Similar to 401K programs, the 457b Deferred Plan allows employees to defer
up to $14,000 of pretax income each year to supplement retirement savings.
Pre-tax contributions can be cashed in upon retirement or termination without
penalty. This plan is provided by Nationwide Retirement Solutions 1-877-677-3678.

Special leaves of absence for military service, maternity leave, etc.
