NATURE OF WORK
Performs varied tasks and services that support the operation of the Juvenile Detention Center.
 

Example of Work

(Illustrative Only) Oversees the safety and well-being of persons committed to the Juvenile Detention Center; reviews booking and release paperwork; transports detainees to court, school, medical appointments/services and other trips to and from the facility; escorts detainees to court, school, medical appointments/services and other trips to and from the facility; provides food, water and medical attention; investigates incidents and provides written reports; identifies and recommends changes in policies and/or procedures; fills out and maintains a variety of files and records; provides information and advice related to level of supplies and materials; assists in the coordination of resources within and those in contact with the detention center; works a rotating shift with rotating schedules; performs other functions as assigned; the above information is intended to describe the general nature of this position and is not to be considered a complete statement of duties, responsibilities and requirements; regular and reliable attendance is required.

Experience and Education

High school diploma OR GED; AND, One (1) year of experience in law enforcement, social services, group homes OR closely related area; OR, Associates Degree in Social Services, Criminal Justice OR a closely related field; OR any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Successfully complete the Yuma County Sheriff's Detention Officer Academy within 1 year of employment; this classification requires the applicant to pass criminal background checks, polygraph, psychological, physical or drug test prior to appointment; must have the ability to work all three shifts (days, afternoons and graveyards), holidays and weekends; a valid Arizona State driver's license may be required; Arizona Committee on Judicial Education and Training (COJET) yearly accreditation is required; employees of this classification are required to obtain certification in CPR, First Aid, Van Safety; defensive driving and as a food handler within the first six months of employment; employees of this classification must maintain all certifications stated above; the above information is not to be considered a complete statement of additional requirements. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in detention facility; work involves intense concentration on activities going on around one's location on a constant basis throughout the entire work shift; work occasionally involves personal danger, and potential exposure to hazardous, uncontrollable and life threatening situations; requires physical ability to subdue hostile individuals; and must be able to work during weekdays, weekends, and holidays on any assigned shift. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All applicants must be at least the age of 21; in addition to the regular screening process the applicant will be required to participate and pass the following: written employment test, physical agility, polygraph and psychological test. The Supplemental Form is mandatory and it must be completed along with the Yuma County application.

This position is advertised from the minimum to the mid-point hourly rate. Salary will be determined based on education and experience at the time of offer.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of: Applicable State of Arizona statutes, rules, administrative orders, operational policies and procedures, federal rules and requirements; legal terminology and court processes and procedures; basic principles and practices of supervision of detainees; basic principles and practices of record keeping, case and file management/maintenance; interpersonal skills that supports working with a diverse group of individuals that include judges, court staff, litigants, attorneys, detainees, their families and the general public; community resources and services.

Skill in: Working under pressure in a highly dynamic environment with changing program demands and priorities; establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with court employees, other court and non-court related agencies and representatives, detainees, their families and the public; communicating effectively with a variety of people, organizations and entities; working under pressures handling problems and tasks that develop unexpectedly; operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications.

Medical Coverage Category 2017

The YCEBT is a self-funded medical plan administered by BlueCross BlueShield of Arizona (BCBSAZ).  The employee is able to select from two (2) medical plan options with four (4) tiers that will best suit the employee's needs, dependents or families.

Plan Option 1: Preferred Provider Option (PPO) or PPO with $20.00 Wellness Incentive.
Employees who participate in the "Wellness Incentive" will receive a $20 monthly premium reduction.

Plan Option 2: High Deductible High Plan - Health Savings Account (HDHP-HSA) or HDHP-HSA with Wellness Incentive.
HDHP-HSA Wellness Incentive for Employee Only option receives a $240.00 annual contribution to a Limited Purpose FSA card.

Southwest Service Administrator (SSA) Mexico PPO Health Plan: SSA is available to employees who are enrolled in YCEBT Medical PPO Plan. The SSA Plan pays 100% of hospital, medical, laboratory and prescription drug benefits, to a maximum of $3,500 per person per calendar year ($7,000 for two or more family members).
