The Hennepin County Information Technology (IT) Department delivers innovative, effective, and timely business-driven information technology solutions in a secure, reliable, accessible, and fiscally responsible manner.

The Finance area of the IT Department has an opening for a full time Account Clerk. This position will audit, maintain, and track databases and process financial data into various reporting systems.

The primary duties and responsibilities for this position include:
  • Process invoices, requisitions, and receipts through PeopleSoft.
  • Verify the accuracy of a wide variety of account records and other financially related information.
  • Maintain and update various spreadsheets/databases.
  • Review and prepare financial reports; analyze and find deficiencies on financial reports.
  • Make recommendations for process improvement, changes, modifications, or other actions for varying processes.
  • Prepare journal entries and post to the general ledger.
  • Track Umbrella contracts for compliance to budget restrictions; maintain Umbrella contract records of daily, monthly, and yearly Not to Exceed amounts (NTE's).
  • Run monthly reports from and input budget information to our financial system.
  • Prepare purchase orders for equipment and supplies.
  • Set up blanket purchase orders (PO's) for the reoccurring monthly invoices.
  • Provide triage duties such as reviewing financial related requests and assigning to proper staff.
Best Qualified Candidates will have:
  • One of the following:
    • Three years or more of accounting experience performing accounts payable/receivable duties.
    • Associate's degree or higher in accounting or another closely related field and one year or more of experience performing accounts payable/receivable duties.
    • An approved combination of accounting related education and experience.
  • Experience performing accounting functions using PeopleSoft or a similar accounting software package.
  • Experience collecting, analyzing, and reporting financial data.
  • Advanced skill in working with Microsoft Office software including Excel, Word, and Microsoft Outlook email.
  • Ability to:
    • Handle multiple complex tasks simultaneously by setting priorities and meeting deadlines; excellent organizational and time management skills with attention to detail and the ability to work both in a team and independently.
    • Provide quality customer service and to deal with the general public and staff members with tact and discretion; handle client complaints and protected information in a confidential manner.
    • Follow oral and written instructions, guidelines, and procedures.
