The Position

 
Museum Volunteer

As a volunteer at the Museum of History and Art, Ontario you will help to promote knowledge and understanding of the history, art, and cultural traditions of the greater Ontario area in a broad context. The Museum of History and Art, Ontario serves to enrich the community by collecting, preserving, and interpreting the history of Ontario and its region through exhibitions, educational programs, lectures, publications and other community events. Volunteer opportunities include:
 

Education Volunteers – Assist museum stafff at special events (Family Days, programs, etc.) and tours.

General Administation Volunteers – Assist Museum staff with gneral oofice duties as needed including labeling and bulk mail processing.

Collections Committee Volunteers - The Collections Committee serves as an arm of the Museum Board of Trustees. On behalf of the Museum Board of Trustees, the Collections Committee is responsible for scrutinizing non-monetary donations to the museum. The committee furthers the mission of the museum by determining if donation(s) are relevant to the study of regional history and culture with special emphasis Ontario-specific items. The committee approves the acquisition of donations, thereby becoming permanent accessions of the museum. The committee approves de-accession of items. Also, the committee recommends changes to Collection Policy and offers opinions to museum management.

Committee members meet quarterly (on the fourth Thursday of January, April, July and October). The Meetings start at 2:00 p.m. and end approximately 3:00 p.m. The Collections Committee is currently chaired by the Museum Curator.

This is a volunteer position with the City of Ontario. The City provides no compensation for the services performed by volunteers. Volunteers are not entitled to any benefits from the City, including but not limited to Worker's Compensation benefits.

Volunteers at the Museum of History and Art, Ontario may perform the following duties:
 

  1. Assists members of City staff by performing basic administrative and technical assignments.
     
  2. Assists with scheduling, set-up, and tear-down of special events.

  3. Conducts building tours.
     
  4. Operates personal computers, printers, and other office equipment.
       
  5. Responds to requests for information and general questions from the public.
     
  6. Assists with or provides instruction for educational classes.

Requirements

Volunteers under the age of 18 must have their parent or guardian's permission to volunteer.  
 

Supplemental Information


This is a volunteer (unpaid) position with the City of Ontario. As such, the City of Ontario's General Process for employment does not apply to this position. All volunteers are required to pass a criminal background check. Criminal arrest and/or conviction information as well as subsequent arrest notifications will be obtained from the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and/or Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

In consideration for being allowed to provide these services I hereby release the City of Ontario, its agents, employees and officers from liability for any injuries and damages I may suffer while performing these services.
