Purpose of Announcement

EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO SUPPLEMENT THE EXISTING EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL FUTURE EAST AND WEST JEFFERSON VACANCIES IN THE DEPARTMENT OF PARKS & RECREATION.

Kind of Work

Under general direction, the purpose of this position is to provide supervision and direction over all activities and maintenance staff at a recreation center during assigned shift and acts as back up to the Center Supervisor. Responsible for proper janitorial and grounds maintenance of a Parish recreational facility. May assist in the preparation of the grounds for various athletic events, or activities. Employee is responsible for the safe storage of all supplies, tools and equipment; keep accurate records of stock; and requisitions supplies. This position is also an essential, emergency duty status worker and may not be relieved of duty when the Parish President or his designee recommends a voluntary or mandatory evacuation of Jefferson Parish.  The current position requires driving of a personal vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and personal automobile with minimum liability insurance available for business use (business travel is reimbursed on a mileage basis) will be given preference.

Minimum Qualifications For Admission to Examination

Completion of high school or the equivalent, PLUS, at least six (6) months of verifiable related work experience indicating ability to assume the duties and responsibilities of the position.
 
SUBSTITUTION: Sufficient, satisfactory college training may substitute for the required work experience.
 
NOTE: Any conviction listed in the Louisiana Child Protection Act (Louisiana R.S. 15:587.1) is considered disqualifying, unless written proof of pardon is submitted in time for consideration with the application.

Kind of Examination

(ENTRANCE AND PROMOTIONAL)

The examination consists of a written test (weighted 100%) on the following job knowledge and skill areas: maintenance at recreation facilities, recreation program management, mathematical reasoning, athletics, and supervision. Acceptable applicants will be notified of the date, time, and place of examination.

JEFFERSON PARISH CIVIL SERVICE BENEFITS

Vacation (Annual Leave)
Employees accumulate one half day of paid vacation for every two weeks worked.
Leave accrual rates increase with years of service. Any unused annual leave is
usually paid upon separation from Parish Employment.

Sick Leave
Employees accumulate one half day of paid sick leave for every two weeks worked.
Sick leave is available for personal illness, injury or medical consultations.

Holidays
Nine paid official holidays are observed, plus any holidays declared by Parish Officials.

Life Insurance
All regular employees receive a life insurance policy equal to one year's salary.
Extra insurance may be purchased.

Medical Insurance
An HMO medical insurance plan is avalable for employees and their
dependents. Jefferson Parish pays 80% of the premium for employees and 50% of
the premiums for dependents.


A Flexible Benefits Plan
Employees have the opportunity to save money by paying for health
insurance and optional insurance with pre-tax dollars. A Flexible Savings
Account for Medical Expenses and Dependent Care is also available.

Retirement
Most regular employees belong to the Parochial Employees' Retirement
System instead of the Social Security System. For employees hired after
January 01, 2007, a pension calculated at 3% of salary per year of service
is provided upon retirement at age 67 with 7 years of service, age 62 with
10 years of service, or age 55 with 30 years of service.

Tenure Payment
Employees are paid $25 per year of service in December of each year.
Employees must have worked two years before the first check is paid.


Deferred Compensation Plan(457b plan)
Similar to 401K programs, the 457b Deferred Plan allows employees to defer
up to $14,000 of pretax income each year to supplement retirement savings.
Pre-tax contributions can be cashed in upon retirement or termination without
penalty. This plan is provided by Nationwide Retirement Solutions 1-877-677-3678.

Special leaves of absence for military service, maternity leave, etc.
may be granted in accordance with the Personnel Rules.
