Description

The City of Cedar Hill is accepting applications for the position of Account Clerk within the Finance Department. The purpose of this position is to ensure all City vendors are current. This is accomplished by reviewing payment request submitted by departments, entering payment requests and processing invoices for payment of the Finance department in a timely manner; printing checks weekly and on demand as needed. Other duties include distributing the mail, scanning Finance invoices, file maintenance, providing courteous assistance to other departments and to outside callers, preparing and submitting 1099s and other general administrative duties as required. This position does not provide direction to other employees.

Core Responsibilities

  • Provides premier customer service to internal and external customers by responding to requests in a timely and professional manner. Communicates effectively, efficiently, and courteously by telephone to refer calls to the appropriate City personnel or outside organization. Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; gathers and analyzes information skillfully.

  • Performs account payable tasks that included: reviewing invoices for payment and printing checks weekly.

  • Maintains secure records necessary for 1099 compliance, processes 1099 forms and submits required documents according to regulations and established deadlines.

  • Monitors the status of all vendors to ensure timely payment requests are received from City departments and monitor statements to ensure status of all vendors are current.

  • Maintains vendor files by matching payment vouchers to invoices paid and accurately filing in appropriate vendor file.

  • Provides accurate data entry for invoices of the Finance department into the financial system to ensure payment in a timely manner, to avoid late charges and effect on time discounts.

  • Additional duties include distributing mail, scanning, file maintenance, and other duties as assigned.

  • Regular attendance required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; A related Associate's Degree or some college is preferred.

  • At least three years of accounts payable experience required, preferably with high volume work environment.
