DESCRIPTION

While we periodically have vacancies in various areas, we are currently in need of an experienced engineer as described in the Supplemental Information below.

Professional engineering work at the expert level as a staff assistant to a Chief Engineer, as an assistant to District Engineer, as the administrative head of a major engineering unit, or at a comparable level calling for demonstrated expertise within an engineering specialty. The responsibilities of the incumbent may extend to developing and implementing working policies and procedures for the area of assignment. Incumbent may be responsible for organizing, staffing, administering programs, and providing day-to-day direction according to the needs of the operation and the procedures of the Department.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Training:

Requires a current license as a registered professional engineer in West Virginia.

Experience: Seven (7) years of professional highway engineering experience involving the design, construction, or maintenance of highways.

Note: The experience must have been acquired after bachelor's degree but may have occurred before or after registration as a professional engineer.

Substitution: Non-highway professional engineering experience may be substituted for highway engineering experience at the rate of two years of general experience for one year of highway related experience.

Substitution: Master's of science degree in civil engineering from a regionally accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

Current position need: You will perform professional engineering work at the expert level in the area of transportation planning as a part of the overall delivery of the highway construction program. The duties include the planning and organizing work procedures of engineers or other technical/professional employees, coordinating with division and district organizations and other state and federal agencies to ensure continuity of efforts required to obtain maximum efficiency in meeting established goals. Will develop project prioritization methodologies and perform project analyses as well as prepare corridor studies. Will utilize CADD software to assist in corridor analyses and studies and must have excellent communication skills. Performs related work as required.

Annual Increment Pay

The annual increment is $60 for each full year of qualifying service, and is paid in July of each year. This is available to employees with 3 or more years of service.

Holidays

Twelve (12) paid holidays in each year.

Vacation

15 to 24 days per year depending on length of service.

Paid Sick Leave

We offer an outstanding paid sick leave benefit.

Employees earn 1.5 days each month or 18 days per year.

There is no limit to the amount of sick leave an employee can accumulate.
