FAMILY COURT SERVICES - KEEPING KIDS SAFE Volunteer or Intern Program
(This is an unpaid Volunteer/Intern Program)

This recruitment is to establish a list of volunteers as needs arise within the department. Please note, opportunities may not be immediately available at the time an application is submitted. If you wish to inquire on the status of your application, please contact HRStaffing@occourts.org

Example of Duties

Family Court Services Support Office
Individuals interested or studying in the areas of Human Services, Sociology, Criminology or other related fields are encouraged to apply. The ideal individual will perform a variety functions that involve working to support the Family Court Services clerical office located at the Lamoreaux Justice Center in the City of Orange. Duties may include: preparing packets, assisting with copy work, filing, preparing case files, special projects, scanning documents, and making follow up phone calls as necessary. Good interpersonal or communication and phone skills are essential. Some computer skills are desirable.

Intake Coordinator
Individuals must be available during the morning hours until noon. Duties may include: assisting parents in completing intake paperwork after court hearings and when a parent is ordered to a non-profit supervised visitation service provider in Orange County e.g. F.A.C.E.S or La Familia. 

Supervised Visitation Monitor
Individuals will perform services at a non-profit supervised visitation service provider in Orange County. The goal of this program is to ensure that the Court's directives and program rules are followed. Duties may include: monitoring the interaction between a non-custodial parent and child(ren); keeping written records of facts observed; facilitating appropriate interaction between all participants and monitoring their safety; and maintaining confidentiality and neutrality. Training will be provided in the above areas.

Minimum Qualifications

What You Need
  • Minimum age of 18 or older (age 21 years of age or older for Supervised Visitation Monitor).
  • A minimum of 10 hours per week for 6 months; days, evenings, and/ or weekends.
  • Spanish/English and Vietnamese/English Bilingual skills are desirable.
  • Good writing and interpersonal communication skills.

Guidelines and Provisions: If accepted into the Family Court Services-Keeping Kids Safe Intern/Volunteer Program, I understand that I will not be reimbursed for any unauthorized mileage or out-of pocket expenses. As an (a) intern/volunteer, I am not an employee of the Court; I understand that I am not covered by the Court's Memorandum of Understanding. I understand that State law requires that I must possess valid automobile/liability insurance and agree to have such coverage if I am involved in using my own vehicle for Court business. It is also my understanding that a criminal record check is conducted on all interns/volunteers, and the results of such check is used for the sole purpose of evaluating the suitability to access Court files and confidential information.

I also understand that if any claim arises out of the foregoing, the intern/volunteer shall defend, indemnify and hold harmless the Superior Court of Orange County and its officers, employees and agents from the same.
