DESCRIPTION

Provides services to the assigned caseload of inmates living in the unit. Work involves providing security, inmate counseling, treatment services, developing case histories and recommendations regarding inmate behavior and performance, controlling inmate movement, and acting as role models for the inmates. Compiles information, analyzes causal factors for the inmate's involvement in crime and behavioral issues, and recommends a correctional self-improvement program to assist the inmate in controlling and overcoming problems.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Training:
Graduation from a regionally accredited four-year college or university with a major in criminal justice, corrections, psychology, sociology, counseling, counseling and guidance, criminology, social work or related field. Substitution: Applicants who do not meet the college requirement above may substitute additional experience in the area of corrections programming or treatment for the required training on a year-for-year basis.

Experience:
Two (2) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in inmate counseling, security or treatment in a correctional setting or in counseling, counseling and guidance, as a probation and parole officer, mental health counselor or social worker. Substitution: Master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university in criminal justice, corrections, social work or related behavioral science field may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

The annual increment is $60 for each full year of qualifying service, and is paid in July of each year. This is available to employees with 3 or more years of service.

Note: Applicants who do not have a bachelor's degree MUST have corrections programming or corrections treatment experience. Convert quarter hours to semester hours by multiplying by 2/3.

1) Bachelors degree with an official major in criminal justice, corrections, psychology, sociology, counseling, counseling and guidance, criminology, social work or related field. PLUS Two (2) years paid experience as stated above.

2) Bachelor's degree with an official major in a field not related to those listed in #1. PLUS Three (3) years paid experience as stated above.

3) An accredited Master's Degree with official major in criminal justice, corrections, social work or related behavioral science field.

4) An accredited Master's Degree in a field other than above, PLUS three (3) years paid experience as stated above.

5) 0-29 sem. credit hrs college PLUS seven (7) years paid experience as stated above.

6) 30-59 sem. hrs college PLUS six (6) years paid experience as stated above.

7) 60-89 sem. hrs college or AA degree PLUS five (5) years paid experience as stated above.
