  • Provides general information to customers for various city services (such as water, sewer, potholes, ditches, culverts, traffic signals and signs, dangerous buildings, weeded lots) or transfers calls to appropriate City personnel.
  • Researches, analyzes and resolves customers' problems and inquiries.
  • Assists in locating personnel in the City of Houston to respond to citizens' requests for city services.
  • Receives telephone calls using the automatic call distribution system and computer-based work management system to provide customers information on services requested.

Description

• Performs web production tasks, such as cutting, pasting and optimizing images, HTML coding, CSS implementation and other visual markups.
• Updates entries in the website database through a web-based site management system.
• Tracks all changes and documents processes associated with updating the website.
• Maintains an up-to-date collection of artwork, clip art, graphic designs and photos related to department operations.
• Optimizes various images for posting on the internet.
• Provides designs for the City's website.
• Assists Web Designer, Web Coordinator or Webmaster with the collection and maintenance of information that is pertinent to the operations, services and staff of the department.
• Recommends improvements to web pages to enhance the overall visual appeal and continuity of assigned web pages.
• Compiles information for use on the website.
• May translate selected materials into machine-readable format (HTML) for upload to the web server.
• May assist the Webmaster or Web Designers with the creation of web pages.
• Performs other duties or assists with special projects as needed.

DEFINITION

Under general supervision, patrols an assigned area in the prevention of crime and enforcement of law and order; carries out special assignments related to departmental operations or law enforcement in general; conducts investigations; performs related work as assigned.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS

This is a flex class.  Positions are typically budgeted at the higher level, Police Officer II but are under-filled at the Police Officer I level until the incumbent acquires the full range of knowledge, skills and abilities required of a journey level Police Officer.  The progression of a Police Officer I (entry level) to a Police Officer II (journey level) requires an evaluation of employee skill and performance levels by management.

Police Officers are assigned to any of a number of functional areas within the Police Department on a rotating basis.
