2014 CORRECTION OFFICER/CHEF PROMOTIONAL EDUCATION CLAIM INSTRUCTIONS: For all CORRECTION OFFICER Departmental Promotional Exams, HRD will grant E&E points only for whole and conferred degrees from regionally accredited higher education institutions, and not for individual semester hours or degree credits. Semester hours earned in an unfinished degree program or in a non-degree (Certificate) program are not eligible for E&E credit. If you have multiple conferred degrees and have applied the same course credits from one degree to another, HRD will grant you full E&E points for one degree, but will prorate the points for your additional degree(s) to account for any course overlap. HRD only recognizes degrees granted by: a) regionally accredited higher education institutions in the United States; or, b) institutions outside the United States granting degrees or degree program credits that are recognized by one of the United States regional accrediting agencies or that are transferable to a regionally accredited higher education institution in the United States. If you have a degree in a field listed in Category 1, indicate the highest degree you have received from a recognized (as defined above) college or university in Category 1 and make no entries in Category 2. If you have a degree in a field listed in Category 2 but not in Category 1, indicate the highest degree you have received from a recognized (as defined above) college or university in Category 2 and make no entries in Category 1. In either category, each level beyond "None" receives credit for an additional 60 semester hours. You will receive credit for all levels up to and including the one you checked. Do not indicate the same degree more than once or in more than one category. Example: If you have a Bachelor's degree in a field listed in Category 1, select "Bachelor Degree" in Category 1. If you have a Bachelor of Laws and Letters degree (LL.B.) you should select "Doctorate" in Category 1. If you have two degrees at the same level (for example, two Bachelor's degrees), do not "double-count" any transferred courses already counted toward one completed degree. Include only the semester hours earned for the second degree in the appropriate category. An example is a Master's degree in Category 2, if you have already claimed a Bachelor's degree in Category 1; you would select 60-89 semester hours in Category 2A to be credited for the additional degree beyond your Bachelor's. In summary, do not indicate the same college courses more than once or in more than one academic degree or category. Another example is an applicant has 2 conferred bachelor degrees, the first one in Psychology and the second in Criminal Justice. The applicant met his/her Criminal Justice degree requirements by earning 15 semester hours in the program and by applying 105 of 120 semester hours from his/her Psychology course work toward the Criminal Justice degree. For this exam, the applicant may claim a Bachelor's degree in Category 1 and then an additional 15 semester hours in Category 1. During the HRD review process or during the life of the resulting eligible list(s), applicants must make original supporting documentation available should the issue of authenticity arise with the submitted copies. Read the list of degrees in each category: Category 1: Culinary arts; hotel, restaurant and travel administration; food service management; dietetics; foods and nutrition; home economics; hotel and restaurant management; institutional management; criminal justice; criminology; law enforcement; corrections; sociology; psychology; education; social work; human services; rehabilitation; or counseling. Category 2: All other fields. THE MAXIMUM OF AMOUNT OF CREDITABLE POINTS FOR EDUCATION SECTION IS 15. VERIFYING EDUCATION CLAIMS: APPLICANTS MUST SUBMIT TRANSCRIPTS FROM ALL INSTITUTIONS IN WHICH THEY ARE REQUESTING CREDIT. TRANSCRIPTS MUST INDICATE THAT THE DEGREE WAS IN FACT CONFERRED, THE MAJOR IN WHICH THE DEGREE WAS CONFERRED, AND THE CONFER DATE. DURING THE HRD REVIEW PROCESS OR DURING THE LIFE OF THE RESULTING ELIGIBLE LIST(S) APPLICANTS MUST MAKE ORIGINAL SUPPORTING DOCUMENTATION AVAILABLE SHOULD THE ISSUE OF AUTHENTICITY ARISE WITH THE SUBMITTED COPIES. SELECT "YES" TO INDICATE YOU HAVE READ AND UNDERSTOOD THESE INSTRUCTIONS. FAILURE TO SUBMIT AN ONLINE EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE CLAIM WILL RESULT IN A FAILED COMPONENT OF THIS EXAM
