  • Provides general information to customers for various city services (such as water, sewer, potholes, ditches, culverts, traffic signals and signs, dangerous buildings, weeded lots) or transfers calls to appropriate City personnel.
  • Researches, analyzes and resolves customers' problems and inquiries.
  • Assists in locating personnel in the City of Houston to respond to citizens' requests for city services.
  • Receives telephone calls using the automatic call distribution system and computer-based work management system to provide customers information on services requested.
  • May receive calls for non-dispatch police services.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Performs a variety of professional administrative functions to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities.

Conducts studies related to the operation of the organization. Coordinates preparation of reports on findings and offers recommendations concerning various problems. Maintains all pertinent information necessary to generate weekly and/or monthly reports. Composes correspondence, directives, speeches, etc. Prepares drafts on various departmental matters and edits material as required. Responds to written and telephone inquiries, requests and complaints from the general public. Assists in handling professional administrative tasks for the Houston Commission on Disabilities. Serves as City Council liaison in matters pertaining to disabilities. Represents the Office at designated conferences, meetings, and public events. Assists in producing public information activities including preparing news releases, brochures, visual presentations, etc. Plans and implements special projects as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS
The position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc.

Duties

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Liberal Arts, or a related field.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Three years of administrative experience are required. Professional administrative experience may be substituted for the above education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

MINIMUM LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
None.

PREFERENCES
Preferences will be given to applicants with knowledge and experience interpreting the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Experience in working with people with disabilities is preferred.
