Description

Under general supervision, performs specialized clerical work of preparing water and sewer utility bills; maintaining customer accounts; verifying and posting payments received and charges to customer accounts for Public Utilities.  Employee is responsible for creating workorders for meter installation and changes; entering and verifying meter readings; and addressing customer questions concerning meter readings and billing.  Employee is responsible for reviewing problem accounts and making adjustments as needed for leak adjustments, new services, and transfer of services as well as various charges for services rendered by the maintenance department.  Work involves collecting payments for water and sewer usage by mail; performing enhanced reports; processing monthly and final billings; answering telephones, and handling routine requests for information as well as details concerning meter readings and billing.  Employee must exercise independent judgment and initiative in completing assignments.  Employee must also exercise tact and courtesy in frequent contact with utility customers and the general public.  Reports to the Customer Service Supervisor.

Qualifications

Associates degree in accounting and one to two years experience in customer service and billing; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
