Description

RESIDENCE REQUIREMENTS:  CANDIDATES MUST HAVE BEEN LEGAL RESIDENTS OF ERIE COUNTY FOR AT LEAST ONE MONTH IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING THE DATE OF THE WRITTEN TEST AND MUST BE LEGAL RESIDENTS OF ERIE COUNTY AT THE TIME OF APPOINTMENT. There is one present vacancy at the Erie County Comptroller's Office 

Examples of Duties

An Accounting Analyst is responsible for analyzing and interpreting  complex accounting data recorded in the Comptroller’s office or a large County department;

Collects, analyzes, interprets, summarizes and presents complex accounting data; 

Prepares narratives, schedules, charts and graphs rendered in form usable for evaluating the integrity of the accounting records; 

Directs other staff in the completion of accounting analysis projects which require a team effort; 

Prepares accounting documentation for comparison of accounting alternatives using a variety of modern analytical techniques; 

Reviews general and subsidiary ledgers to insure that deviations are appropriately dealt with; 

Prepares financial statements in accordance with generally accepted reporting standards; 

Meets, participates and provides on a regular basis, information on status of accounting analysis projects, problem areas and recommendations to the Comptroller or department head and other staff.

Typical Qualifications

Graduation from a regionally accredited or New Y ark State registered four year college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or related field including or supplemented by 24 semester credit hours in accounting* and four years of experience in the field of accounting, one year of which was in a supervisory** or administrative*** capacity.

*ACCOUNTING: recording, classifying, verifying, reporting and analysis of financial data. Examples of acceptable accounting experience are full-charge bookkeeper (responsible for a full set of financial records including General Ledger and all subsidiaries. Examples of unacceptable experience are: account-clerical experience and experience limited to posting, maintaining, examining or preparing one or more of the fol1owing: voucher register, sales register, cashbook, insurance register, accounts receivable ledger, accounts payable ledger, any other special journal or subsidiary ledger; or experience preparing income tax returns.

**SUPERVISION: Responsible direction and control of subordinate employees. This involves the assignment of work, approval of work, training, evaluation and discipline of employees. The supervisory aspects must be an integral part of the job, not incidental or occasional.

***ADMINISTRATIVE: experience is defined as the responsible planning, management and control functions of an organization or organizational unit including the development and/or approval of operating policy and procedures.

Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered four year college or university with a Master's Degree in Business Administration may be substituted for one year of the required accounting experience but may not be substituted for the required supervisory or administrative experience. 2. acceptable educational practices.
