Job Description

This is an appointed position that performs highly responsible managerial and technical work in the administration of the Fleet Unit. Responsible for vehicle acquisition, repair, maintenance, replacement and disposal, maintenance of asset and client information, and compliance with State and Federal regulations and all customer service activities. This position works within broad policy and organizational guidelines. Requires a high degree of decision-making and independent judgment.

Position Duties

The tasks listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

Responsible for ensuring the maintenance of accurate vehicle data records.

Responsible for oversight and direction of inventory activities for vehicle parts.

Manage and monitors the fuel procurement program.

Evaluates and monitors condition of fleet and oversees pool vehicle program.

Conducts training and evaluations of staff.

Assigns and directs team of fourteen (14) subordinates, issues counseling when necessary.

Keeps informed of and provides policy changes to staff and agency.

Ensures all required property, decals and equipment to a given vehicle are to manufacture's specifications and in accordance with agency policy.

Assesses vehicle status to determine which vehicles to be replaced, prepares accurate purchasing requirements in accordance with agency policy.

Ensures that all maintenance work conducted on all vehicles is complete, documented, recorded, and filed by inventory numbers consistent with agency policy.

Manages fiscal resources through the rational assessment of department needs and established priorities in conjunction with determined expenditures and in accordance with agency policies.

Regular, dependable and punctual attendance is an essential function of this job.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in public administration, business administration, or related field and at least four (4) years of responsible experience in shop/fleet management; or an equivalent combination of training, education and experience.

Requires comprehensive knowledge of fleet maintenance practices and procedures.

Must be experienced in the use of MS office.

Requires valid Florida State driver's license(must be maintained for duration of employment).

Additional Information

Work is completed in a shop environment. Employee's may work indoors or outdoors and may travel to multiple locations to complete various required job tasks. Employees may have contact with inmates.

Work is mainly performed during normal business hours (Monday - Friday 8am-5pm). Will require fluctuations to schedule and must be available after normal work hours to meet operational needs.

This position will be required to report to work during inclement and extreme weather conditions, often outside normally scheduled work hours, to include routine days off and remain on site during significant emergency situations such as hurricanes, disturbances or other natural disasters.
