JOB INFORMATION_San

Multimedia Production Specialist positions create and present projects in a variety of media including video, compatible computer files and the internet, including social media platforms, photography, audio and graphics; operating control room switching equipment, serving as a technical director, director and camera operator; develop creative concepts, storyboarding and script writing; work in a highly collaborative environment with video producers, editors and graphic designers; operate a video camera, edit video, determine and create optimal lighting; provide audio support; utilize a range of computer software, including Adobe Photoshop, Apple Final Cut Pro X, Motion, Compressor, Mac OS X and Windows 10 operating systems; perform computer based video compression for internet distribution; provide technical support for City departments on audio/visual equipment procedures and techniques; manage live meetings and produce virtual videos using Microsoft Teams and Zoom for YouTube channels; and perform other duties as assigned.
 
        NOTE:

  • Some Multimedia Production Specialist positions require early morning, late evening, and weekend hours.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS_San

You must meet the following requirements on the date you apply, unless otherwise indicated.
 
 EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: You must meet ONE of the following options:

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Multimedia Technology/Production, Television and Film Communication, Theater, Journalism, Public Relations, Graphic or Commercial Arts, or a closely related field.
  2. Associate's Degree in one of the above fields AND one year of full-time multimedia production experience in a multimedia/graphics production center or news organization, or in government video production, or local organization programming, which MUST include at least TWO of the following areas:
    1. All aspects of professional video production including camera work, editing, and other production and postproduction functions.
    2. Video preproduction including script writing and programming development.
    3. Graphic design using both traditional and computerized techniques.
    4. Live television production including directing, technical directing, and operating a character generator in a professional television studio.
  3. Trade or vocational certificate in one of the above fields AND two years of full-time multimedia production experience as described above.
  4. Three years of full-time multimedia production experience as described above.

        NOTES:

  • Video documentation of private events for individuals, such as weddings, is NOT qualifying.
  • City of San Diego employees using Out-of-Class Assignment (OCA) experience to qualify must submit written documentation signed by their appointing authority or payroll specialist, detailing the work performed, dates, and total number of qualifying OCA hours.  OCA experience without the required documentation will NOT be considered

LICENSE:  A valid California Class C Driver License is required at the time of hire.
 
       NOTE:

  • You may be required to provide your own vehicle for which mileage will be reimbursed.

HIGHLY DESIRABLE:

  • All aspects of professional photography production, including planning, various types of photography, photo editing and other production and postproduction functions.
  • Experience with a variety of motion graphics, compositing and animation software.

SCREENING PROCESS_San
