Description

The Resource Development Manager oversees and develops plans to develop the resources to support the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center's mission. The manager plans and implements the Center's resource development efforts, coordinating sponsorships, marketing and community partnerships.

Examples of Duties

Ensures the development and implementation of campaign strategies including the development of an annual campaign timetable.

Recommends, develops and directs efforts to solicit resources from individuals, corporations and the community. Builds relationships with granting foundations and agencies.

Researches, identifies and secures outside funding from federal, state and local foundations for support of services. Writes letters, proposals and grant applications; conducts research and maintains files.

Researches, develops and maintains all aspects of the relationship/contact management for key donors, including database management, recognition materials oral and written communications.

Develops and coordinates fundraising strategies from individuals, corporations, foundations and other private, public and non-profit entities via annual giving, memorial gifts, major gifts, planned giving initiatives and building endowment activities.

Oversees the donor recognition system. Ensures accurate reporting of gifting levels and contributions. Oversees sponsor and donor acknowledgement and gift handling procedures. Cultivates a sustainable donor base through outreach and communication. Coordinates, participates and recognizes donors while respecting their confidentiality.

Secures material donations, in-kind contributions, product donations and trade exchanges needed to provide services.

Develops community relationships and initiates cold-calls in order to build sponsorship base.

Cultivates a relationship with local media and businesses for greater visibility, recognition and understanding of MLK's mission and services.

Ensures creation and publication of all marketing materials in line with the MLK's marketing plan.

Prepares or participates in writing federal, state and institutional reports.

Assists in maintaining the MLK's website.

Typical Qualifications

Bachelors degree in marketing, human services, communications, business or a closely relate field and 3 - 6 years experience in resource development and marketing or any equivalent combination of experience and education. Experience with sponsorships and partnership development is preferred.

Thorough knowledge of successful fundraising and development strategies, corporate and major donor communities, grant research methods and applications, marketing and promotions, and event planning and administration.

Thorough knowledge of development principles and practices such as gift giving/tracking, technical based fundraising strategies, direct mail programs, donor relations and database management.

Thorough knowledge of applicable federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to development and fundraising activities and assures compliance.

Experience with strategic planning and management.

Ability to apply knowledge in working with diverse staff and volunteers.

Ability to develop and maintain positive and engaging relationships in the community.

Self-motivated and has the ability to work autonomously but effectively with both internal and external collaborations.

Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions both one-on-one and to groups in private and public settings.

Excellent communications skills both verbal and written.

Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, Access, etc) and the use of e-mail systems.

Supplemental Information

Possession of a valid Class D Illinois driver's license or an equivalent license from the employee's state of residence.

A Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) certificate is preferred.
