To provide assistance in maintaining the Airport grounds.

Examples of Duties / Knowledge & Skills

  • Operates both push type and riding lawn mowers.
  • Operates gas powered trimmers and weed eaters.
  • Assists paint crew.
  • Assists equipment operators and electricians with unskilled labor.
  • Use of shovels, rakes and hand tools.
  • Operates small power sweeper for parking area clean up.
  • Picks up trash objects from landside and airside areas.
  • Operates pickup trucks and power tools.
  • Observes general safety guidelines and reports potential hazards to Airfield Maintenance Superintendent.
  • Completes all other duties as requested.

 

Minimum qualifications & Requirements


EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Capable of being trained to operate specialized equipment.
  • Familiar with hand tools and landscaping equipment.
  • Valid state motor vehicle license with excellent driving record.
  • Must have poise and personal bearing to deal with all people. 
  • Must be able to establish a work relationship with peers, supervisor, and public.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 
  • Ability to operate job related equipment.
  • Must have good written and verbal communication skills.  Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.
  • Must be able to understand and follow directions.
  • Must be able to maintain mobility within all areas of responsibilities.
  • Position requires being able to use hands to finger, handle and feel.  Must be able to reach with hands and arms. 
  •  Must be able to climb and balance as well as being able to stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl. 
  • Must be able to talk, hear and smell.
  • Must be able to bend, twist, and lift up to fifty pounds on a regular basis.  Must be able to lift 100 pounds occasionally.
SECURITY
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an Airport security badge as a condition of employment.

 

Supplemental information

Working Conditions, Travel, Environment, and Potential Hazards:

Travel in and around Airport. Occasionally work performed around hazards in the mechanical shop including moving, mechanical parts, noise, chemicals.  Exposure to fumes, airborne particles, petroleum products and other chemicals.  Exposure to weather extremes - summer.  Moderately noisy to loud work environment.  Exposure to vibration and rough terrain. Hearing protection and safety glasses provided and required for some tasks.                                        

Equipment Operations Required:

Pick-up truck.

Lawn mowers - push and ride on.

Sprinkler systems

Trimmers, weed eaters, hand tools and gardening tools

 

Part-time employees may be eligible to participate in the Washington State Retirement System.  The Airport does provide employee assistance benefits and parking priviledges. 

Part-time employees are not eligible for benefit coverage or paid time off.
