Job Responsibilities

Assists the classroom teacher with the implementation of the Individual Education Plan for each student served as assigned by the teacher. Assists with the mechanics of classroom management on a daily basis, including preparation of class materials, managing student behavior by use of student Code of Conduct and/or individual behavior plans, assists with individual self-care needs (lifting as needed). Provides supervision of students served according to student competency, rules and regulations of SCSDB. Assists with the necessary record keeping, data collection, preparation of behavior/progress reports, and daily communications. Communicates effectively with students in developing language, conceptual and behavioral skills, using a variety of methods based on each student's individual ability. Also assists the teacher with monitoring daily schedules, supervision of students during lunch and on field trips, as well as during trips to the health center.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

Associate's Degree; or successful completion of at least 2 years of college; or successful completion of the Parapro Assessment/WorkKeys Employment System and experience working with children in an educational setting and/or behavior management program.  Requires good basic communication and computer skills; knowledge of appropriate safe travel techniques for the visually impaired, including mobility and independent living skills; must have the ability to handle crises, work with parents and professional staff and be flexible to changing conditions and student assignments as necessary; must have the ability to establish positive rapport with school-age students; must have the ability to work with visually impaired and/or multi-sensory disabled students. 

Additional Comments

If selected for an interview you must provide verification of your highest level of education (i.e., copy of BA Degree, high school diploma, college transcripts) and if applicable, licensure and/or certification (i.e., nursing license, teacher licensure, bus driving certification).
