Are you a collaborative database developer with an agile-focused approach to development? Do you have advanced experience in MS SQL Server Management Studio and Visual Studio, who designs complex systems with automation in mind? Are you ready to make an impact in your community?

Multnomah County is looking for an IT Senior Database Developer to be responsible for the design, development, tuning, maintenance and administrative of Enterprise SQL Server database environments. In this role, your primary focus will be on:

Database Architecture and Development:

  • Create architectural models and evaluate architecture, technology and product alternatives.
  • Plan, define requirements, design, develop, and maintain logical and physical data model for complex decision support and transaction processing systems.
  • Develop, maintain and optimize the most complex SQL statements and shared database objects across multiple DBMS platforms

Database Administration, Troubleshooting, Maintenance and Support

  • Administer database components and configure client-to server network connections
  • Develop and schedule database maintenance jobs as well as analyze and troubleshoot problems, and implementing solutions.
     

Database Performance Tuning and Standards

  • Automate and optimize database server performance
  • Develop standards for metadata and data extraction
     

Project Management and Technical Assistance

  • Collaborate with project managers and business users to identify, define and schedule technical tasks within a project
  • Provide quality customer support and assistance with SQL

Minimum Qualifications/Transferable Skills*:

  • Bachelor's degree (in lieu of degree, equivalent years of experience will be considered)
  • 5 years of experience in database administration
  • Advanced knowledge and experience of:
    • RDBMS management tools, including MS SQL Server Management Studio
    • Installing, performance tuning, maintaining, securing and administering a MS SQL Server database environment
    • Developing on a SQL Server platform using T-SQL, including stored procedures, query plans, functions, views, indexes and triggers
    • Database modeling, data conversion and ETL tools such as SSIS
  • Intermediate knowledge and experience of:
    • Installing, performance tuning, maintaining, securing and administering a MS SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) environment
    • Security, authorization and authentication in Microsoft Active Directory
    • MS SQL Server backup and recovery design and implementation
  • Basic knowledge and experience of:
    • Networking and firewall concepts
    • Microsoft Windows Server administration
    • SAN/NAS Storage management concepts
    • Virtualization technology using MS Windows Hyper-V or VMWare
    • Administrative Scripting (C#, PowerShell, RS.Exe utility, WMI command line tools,  MSBuild command line)
    • Visual Studio and Application Development
    • MS Windows Server high availability technologies, architectures, source control, build and deployment tools.
    • Agile/Scrum development framework
    • Developing and managing databases in a cloud computing environment
  • Ability to pass a criminal history records check
