Description

This position is open until filled.  This designation indicates that a position will continue to be advertised and applications will continue to be accepted until an offer of employment has been made and accepted.

The incumbent of this position provides direct patient care and related support to nursing personnel. This position is under the direction of the Registered Nurse in charge.

This is a "mandatory-testing" position that requires Drug Testing.
 

Examples of Duties

Assist with direct patient care procedures and related tasks, including but not limited to, screening for sick call, accurately documenting patient histories and complaints in the health care record or EMR.

Assist medical providers and nurses in providing emergency care.

Perform venipuncture (must have current phlebotomy certification).

Perform and document vital signs.

Provide medication administration (must be medication administration certified) as per physician and mid-level practitioner orders.

Maintain cleanliness of examination rooms and verify operational status of health services equipment and supplies to ensure ready for use.

Continuously practice safety, and environmental and infection control procedures.

Communicate effectively while maintaining a positive attitude with other health care professional staff members.

Follow all related federal, state, jail health care, and Escambia County Board of County Commissioner's policies, regulations, and guidelines.

Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Qualifications

Training and Experience:
Completion of Certified Medical Assistant program
Correctional health care experience is preferred

Licenses and Certifications:

Must possess a Current Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification at the time of employment
Medical Assistant Certification Preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Federal, state, correctional health care standards, institutional policies and regulations, and accreditation and certification requirements;
Patient care charts and patient histories;
Inventory management practices;
Quality, safety, and infection control standards;
Following standard clinical procedures according to established protocol.
Interviewing
Verbal communication
Clerical/office tasks
Use of personal computers and related software applications
Understanding and following specific instructions and procedures
Working in a high volume environment
Maintaining confidentiality of health records and information
Interacting with a variety of health care professionals

Physical requirements:
Positions in this class typically require stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Very Heavy Work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, blood and other bodily fluids, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, work space restrictions, intense noises and travel.
