Job Description...

This position will function as the Hispanic community program specialist with responsibility for developing and encouraging partnerships with the Michigan Hispanic community, including organizations and businesses; and forming coalitions with other advocacy groups around common issues. This position will be responsible for outreach to Hispanic individuals and families; providing referral services and preparing resource materials, and will serve as liaison and internal consultant with regards to the full range of MDCR programs, policies, procedures and services.  The position will work in coordination with various MDCR work areas to administer a balanced process for addressing civil rights issues within the Hispanic community. 

The employee must be able to read, write and speak Spanish in order to serve the Hispanic community.

Required Education and Experience

Education
Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major.

Experience
Four years of professional experience equivalent to a Civil Rights Representative or Rights Representative, including two years equivalent to a Civil Rights Representative P11 or Rights Representative P11, or one year equivalent to a Civil Rights Representative 12, Civil Rights Manager 12, Rights Representative 12, or Rights Representative Manager 12. 

Additional Requirements and Information

The employee must be able to read, write and speak Spanish in order to serve the Hispanic community.

Leave Time

Full time employees receive between 15 and 35 vacation leave days per year. Employees also receive 13 sick days per year, and employees receive 8 hours of leave to participate in certain school functions or community activities. Employees may also qualify for up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave for certain family or medical situations.

Deferred Compensation

Employees may invest income in a tax-deferred retirement investment program. The state offers two optional deferred compensation plans, the 457 and 401(k). Employees decide the amount you want deducted from your paycheck.


Retirement

Employees receive a minimum 4% state contribution toward their retirement fund. If an employee elects to contribute more, the state will match that percentage (up to 3%).
