Basic Function

The Lead Lifeguard assists with supervising operations related to maintenance, aquatic programs, special events and personnel of the designated facility. In addition, the Lead Lifeguard will work cohesively with Aquatic Coordinators to develop the strategies leading to the accomplishment of division goals.

Nature & Scope

1.            Determine and enforce safety measures, rules and regulations in and around the pool
               to ensure the personal safety of the facility users.

 2.            Assist in maintaining the aquatic facility; including the daily testing and documenting of
                pool chemicals and maintenance when on duty.

 3.            Assist front desk as needed. Greet the public, provide information and assistance
                regarding schedules, registration, program descriptions and other general pool
                 information over the phone and in person. May collect fees, prepare bank deposits
                 and department records and reports when working front desk.

 4.            Assist with regular in-service training, evaluate and give instructions to lifeguards to
                improve techniques and perform skill audits.

 5.            Supervise the activities and give direction to the staff to accomplish daily activities,
                goals, and departmental objectives. Serve as the facility supervisor when Aquatic
                Supervisor and Aquatic Coordinators are off duty.

 6.            Cover various shifts at Dove Waterpark and Pleasant Glade Pool during the summer if
                needed.

 7.            Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills

1.            American Red Cross Lifeguard, First Aid, CPR and AED certification prior to date of
               hire. Certifications must be maintained during employment.

 2.            American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor and Emergency Oxygen is preferred.

3.            No lifeguarding experience required.

4.            Must be able to work flexible schedule, some early mornings, nights and weekends.

 5.            Requires effective written and verbal communication skills; ability to make sound
                decisions in an emergency situation; ability to deal effectively with the public and
                possess an outstanding customer service attitude.

6.            High school diploma or GED.

Must pass a credit and criminal background check and have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record as defined by City policy.
 

 

 

Regular full-time employees are assigned to work at least 40 hours per week, and are eligible for the City's benefit package, subject to the conditions and limitations of each program.
