Description

The work of this position involves serving as the receptionist for a senior citizen center. The receptionist is responsible for answering a multi-line phone system, transferring calls, taking messages and directing visitors to the appropriate senior center staff members or administrative staff members. The receptionist must be able to communicate effectively with staff members and the general public, must have good customer service skills and be able to perform other general office duties.  

20 hours/week

Examples of Duties

Provide information to senior visitors, assist with activity calendar, explain class/activity schedules, meal information and assist with registration. Greet visitors as they enter the senior center and provide them with information or direct them to appropriate staff members. Greet individuals entering for Administrative Division of Senior Services, answer routine questions, and/or escort visitors to appropriate staff offices. 

Answer multi-line telephone system transferring calls to appropriate staff members, providing information and taking messages. Assisting seniors with touch screen sign in system. 

Operate a desktop computer, develop spreadsheets, input data, maintain database. 

Assist class instructors.

Make appointments for AARP Defensive Driving Program. 

Excellent customer service skills. 

Assist with center client information updates, coordinate and schedule transportation for clients to and from the senior center. 

Assist with special projects, attend mandatory meetings, maintain up-to-date basic first aid and CPR certifications. 
 

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from High School or GED Equivalent.

Proficient in MS Office Applications.

One year general office experience. two years of experience working with the public and elderly
 
Any equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered.

Experience working in a Senior Center is preferred.
 
Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Driver's License.

Knowledge, Skill, Abilities/ Supplemental Information

Knowledge of record keeping and filing techniques. 
Skilled in oral and written communication
Proficient in MS Office applications.
