The Opportunity
 
The Attorney General's Office is recruiting for a permanent full time Program Specialist 3 in the Consumer Protection Division. This position is located in downtown Seattle, Washington.
 
The Consumer Protection Division enforces the Consumer Protection Act and other statutes to help keep the Washington marketplace free of unfair and deceptive practices. The division investigates and files legal actions to stop unfair and deceptive practices, recovers refunds for consumers, seeks penalties against offending entities, and recovers costs and fees to ensure that wrongdoers pay for their actions. Division staff participate in the many legislative initiatives that affect consumer protection each year.
 


 

Responsibilities

This position assists the Manufactured Housing Dispute Resolution Program (the Program) management by coordinating all aspects of program services, providing technical assistance and specialized consultation to program participants, staff, and outside entities, and recommending resolution for complex problems and issues related to program services. This position also supervises lower level Program staff.
 
Duties include, but are not limited to:
 

  • Manages the intake, review and assignment of new complaints.
  • Performs dispute resolution services.
  • Communicates with the parties throughout the process to keep them informed of the status of the complaint and to provide information and education about the Program services.
  • Responds to inquiries regarding program services and how to access services.
  • Assists in preparing and updating Program materials and web content.
  • Presents program materials to internal and external stakeholders and attends stakeholder events as assigned.
 
Supervisory duties:  Prepares and conducts Performance development plans; reviews and updates job descriptions. Provides feedback, mentors, and counsels staff as appropriate. Manages and monitors the work performance and quality of work performed by direct report staff. Ensures Program services are provided in compliance with established policies, procedures, and practices. Provides training and performs supervisor administrative tasks (timekeeping approval, leave approval, etc.). Conducts quality control audits on services and service delivery.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and two years of experience, in a related field including planning,  policy analysis, coordination and consultation with a variety of public and private agencies, organizations, and/or levels of government and supervisory experience.
 
Additional experience in a related field may substitute year-for-year for education.
 
In addition, the most competitive candidates will possess the following preferred qualifications:
 

  • Two of more years of customer service experience
  • Demonstrated success working with diverse populations
  • Knowledge of the Manufactured/Mobile Home Landlord-Tenant Act
  • Knowledge of the Manufactured Housing Dispute Resolution Program
  • Two or more years' experience in conducting dispute resolution.

Insurance Benefits

Retirement and Deferred Compensation
 
State Employees are members of the Washington Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS).  New employees have the option of two employer contributed retirement programs.  For additional information, check out the Department of Retirement Systems' web site.
 
Employees also have the ability to participate in the Deferred Compensation Program (DCP).  This is a supplemental retirement savings program (similar to an IRA) that allows you control over the amount of pre-tax salary dollars you defer as well as the flexibility to choose between multiple investment options.
 
Vacation (Annual Leave)
 
You begin accruing vacation starting your first month of employment. Since we value your loyalty, the amount of vacation you can accrue increases the longer you work with us. Washington State supports members of the armed forces with 21 days paid military leave per year. Vacation accrues for full-time employees per WAC 357-31-165.
