About this position
This position reports to the IT Operations Manager, and is responsible for the supervision of the Workstation Support Services team and serves as the lead expert for Systems Architecture.  Workstation Support Services is a four member team that provides services across the agency, including:

  • Implementing and maintaining workstation infrastructure services including, but not limited to workstation computing environment, peripheral equipment and software deployment services.
  • Administering and supporting back end support services including, but not limited to data directory services, system policy serves account/permissions services, mobility services, and print management services.
  • Providing customer support services, responding to end-user requests, providing training and supporting asset management requirements.
 

Responsibilities

In this role you will:

Manage the delivery of the desktop, communications, and support services to employees agency-wide. Including supporting all hardware, software, phones, printers and video conferencing. Specific tasks include:

  • Designing, building, and implementing changes to the agency's desktop and remote office environments.
  • Managing the agency desktop hardware, software and information security environments.
  • Managing desktop hardware and software procurement, as well as maintenance and support agreements.
  • Planning and executing hardware and software refresh activities.
  • Managing services contracts with third party internet service vendors.
  • Serving as a project manager on assigned enterprise level service delivery and / or highly technological projects.
  • Representing the agency with external stakeholders.
Serve as the supervisor for the Workstation and Support work group.  Specific tasks include:
  • Establishing clear expectations and providing mentoring and guidance to staff while ensuring staffing and responsibilities consistently meet the current and future agency operational need.
  • Timely and accurately communicates pertinent information.
  • Developing customer service strategies and ensuring staff provide timely and considerate customer service.
  • Working with agency customers to identify and prioritize their needs.
  • Drafting agency level policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience
 

  • Associate degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or other related field. Year for year of on-the-job experience may be accepted in lieu of the educational requirement.
  • Four (4) years experience in the following areas:
    •  administering and configuring workstations,
    •  providing technical and customer support, and
    •  leading large scale projects
  • Two (2) years experience as a lead for contracting and procurement of IT goods and services, AND
  • Two (2) years supervisory experience.

Insurance Benefits

Retirement and Deferred Compensation
 
State Employees are members of the Washington Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS).  New employees have the option of two employer contributed retirement programs.  For additional information, check out the Department of Retirement Systems' web site.
 
Employees also have the ability to participate in the Deferred Compensation Program (DCP).  This is a supplemental retirement savings program (similar to an IRA) that allows you control over the amount of pre-tax salary dollars you defer as well as the flexibility to choose between multiple investment options.
 
Vacation (Annual Leave)
 
You begin accruing vacation starting your first month of employment. Since we value your loyalty, the amount of vacation you can accrue increases the longer you work with us. Washington State supports members of the armed forces with 21 days paid military leave per year. Vacation accrues for full-time employees per WAC 357-31-165.
