Job Summary

Louisiana Delta Community College is seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented staff accountant with a solid knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and high-level skills in MOS Excel.

This Accounting position will be responsible for managing grant and restricted funds; communicating effectively with co-workers, supervisor, inter-departmental employees, and outside vendors; managing workload, use of time, and performing duties in a professional manner; adapting to changes in the work environment, assuming responsibility and anticipating the impact of the changes; adding value to the accounting team.

Examples of Duties

---Reimbursement Based Grants

• Meet with Grants Accountant and Grants Managers to discuss assigned grants to determine best budget setup.

• Give guidance on coding to Grant Managers and review all expenditures for consistency with grant proposal.

• Prepare monthly reimbursement requests for grants assigned.

• Prepare journals to record AR and Indirect Cost (when appropriate) for reimbursement requests.

• Provide any Banner Budget Status, Projections, or Trial Balance reports to Grant Managers, as requested.

• Work with Grant Managers regarding personnel assigned to grants, provide coding for PARS to HR and/or prepare Banner Redistribution forms for payroll coding changes, as needed. Monitor payroll for begin dates/end dates to ensure proper coding. Make payroll corrections, as needed.

• At year end, ensure that all Purchase Orders have been received by 6/30th and invoices are to AP and charged to current FY, and that all other expenses are recorded in the grants as of 6/30.

---Other Restricted Fee Funds

• Provide carryover reports and develop revenue estimates for current fiscal year to guide restricted fund heads in the set up of budgets. Example: Non-Credit Fee fund

• Monitor these funds, review and approve requisitions and check requests.

• Reconcile at least quarterly that all expenses accurately reflect approved requisitions and check requests and that all approved requisitions have been made into PO's and are processed and completed in a timely manner.

• Assist budget heads with revisions, provide guidance for coding and help to resolve any issues.

---Monthly Reports to Department Heads

• Grant reports to Grant Manager and copy to Budget Director and Grants Accountant.

• Other monthly reports, as assigned.

---Financial Aid Accounting

• PELL and Federal Direct Loans-- Process draws in G5 and reconcile with Banner Finance.

Provide Finance info to Financial Aid personnel to assist them with reconciliation and assist with year-end reports associated with PELL and Loans (Schedule 8).

• TOPS and Go Grants--Process payment requests through LOSFA website for all TOPS and Go Grants, coordinating with Financial Aid personnel the processing and reconciliation of requests with receipts, unprocessed requests and returns. Prepare check requests for returns and provide coding for deposits. Provide Finance and LOSFA reports to Fin Aid and to Grants Accountant for year-end reconciliation and reports.

• Federal Work Study (FWS)--Work with Financial Aid and HR to set up the budget and provide coding for any new student workers. Review each pay period and reconcile with Financial Aid and HR records. Work with Financial Aid in timing of draws from G5 and notify Grants Accountant.

• FSEOG-- Federal Supplemental Opportunity Grant –Work with Financial Aid to set up the budget. Process requests in G5 and reconcile with Banner Finance reports.

Minimum Qualifications

The minimum qualifications for the position is a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business from a regionally accredited institution with 24 hours of Accounting. Candidate must have two years of work experience in an accounting environment. The candidate must possess basic computer literacy skills, and beyond basic skills in MOS Excel and proficient in Word. Experience with Banner Finance software and Fund accounting is beneficial. A successful candidate must be a self-starter, highly detailed and motivated to promote accuracy and excellence, communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, and embrace a commitment to ethics and professionalism.
