LA Schools for the Deaf and Visually Impaired is seeking a certified LIFEGUARD
This is a part-time, as needed only, position.  Must be willing to work flexible hours.

Physical Activity Level
Some work is performed in physically comfortable positions with little or light physical effort, and some work requires moderate effort.  Lifting thirty to forty pounds may be required and brief periods of heavy muscular exertion may be required.  Interpreting/ and transliterating require extended use of the upper body muscles and fine motor movements of the hands.  Physical requirements are subject to reasonable accommodation in accordance with ADA standards.

*Must be 18 years of age or older.
*Must hold current American Red Cross Lifeguard and CPR certifications.
*Must exhibit a professional and friendly manner,
*Must maintain a clean and professional appearance.  

Job Concepts


I.  On Stand Duties

  • Remains alert and attentive while on the lifeguard stand.
  • Consistently scans the pool for distressed swimmers.
  • Enforces all pool rules fairly and consistently.
  • Refrains from chatting with friends or co-workers, texting or talking on the phone, eating while on duty.
  • Responds to emergencies in an appropriate manner according to guidelines taught in Lifeguard, First Aid and CPR Training.
II.  Off Stand Duties
  • Greets and checks in students and staff in a friendly manner.
  • Remains attentive to signals made by other lifeguards who are on the stand.
  • Develops and maintains a professional, friendly relationship with students and staff.
  • Answers all questions politely.
  • Enforces all pool rules fairly and consistently.
  • Promptly refers all problems or complaints to the Activities Director.
  • Picks up debris and trash on the pool deck and grounds.
  • Empties trash cans.
III.  Additional Duties As Assigned
  • Vacuums the pool.
  • Cleans pool tiles and/or skimmers.
  • Checks the pool chemistry as required by parish and state laws and adjusts the chemical balance as necessary.
  • Promptly refers pool chemistry problems to the Activities Director.
  • Refrains from allowing unauthorized employees of LSDVI, friends and/or relatives to use the facility.
  • Reports to duty on time.
  • Follows call in procedures.
