Job Description

Purpose of the Position:
What does the job do?
The Financial Analyst-Advanced position in the Department of Public Safety's (DPS) Budget Bureau will provide expertise and leadership to financial planning, budgeting and expense management for multiple, complex DPS programs. The incumbent will also assist with completing the agency's operating budget, appropriation request, budget adjustments, and budget projections.

  • Prepares financial reports.
  • Analyzes financial information.
  • Prepares budgets Prepares calculations and compiling schedules needed to complete financial statements related to budget.
  • Organizing and maintaining a large volume of source documentation for financial reports.
  • Forecast and track.
  • Independently research complex budgets.

Who is the job done for?
DPS executive management, classified service managers, New Mexico State Police Managers, and external stakeholders.

The Ideal Candidate has experience:
  • Utilizing the SONM SHARE Accounting and Financial module.
  • Providing budget oversight for a large program for a SONM Agency. 
  • Assisting with the compilation and creation of a SONM annual operating budget.

This position is a Pay Band 70.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration and four (4) years of experience in accounting, finance, economics and/or statistical analysis. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling eight (8) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
 
Employment Requirements:
Pre-employment background investigation is required and is conditional pending results. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.

Working Conditions: 
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching me be required. Occasionally work extra hours, weekends and holidays. Some lifting up to 25 lbs. required
