Job Responsibilities

This position is located within the Guardian ad Litem office of the Department of Administration. Under limited supervision, the incumbent manages the Midlands Region of the statewide South Carolina Guardian ad Litem (GAL) Program to ensure that county offices are recruiting, training, and supervising an adequate pool of volunteers in concert with statewide program goals and the training curriculum as outlined by the program's affiliate, The National Court Appointed Special Advocate Association (NCASA). Monitors the accuracy of statistical data region-wide on an ongoing basis as well as monitors the quality of the child advocacy provided to the target population. Interprets regional information for use in the development of strategic plans for the statewide program. Participates in the decision and policy making process for the statewide program. Serves as a liaison for the Program Director with agencies and organizations as needed. Provides technical assistance to county office staff. Performs other duties as required. 

Minimum and Additional Requirements

State Minimum Requirements: A bachelor's degree and relevant program experience. 
Agency Minimum Requirements: A master's degree and three (3) years of administrative, management, or professional experience; or a bachelor's degree and four (4) years of administrative, management, or professional experience. 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Incumbent must be familiar with the regulating legislation for the SC Guardian ad Litem Program and other child welfare legislation. Must have experience with advocacy, mediation, conflict resolution, and Family Court. Incumbent must also possess the following: ability to interview and successfully hire staff; ability to monitor employee performance, manage diverse staff, and direct program administrative duties in a region of the state; ability to interpret and implement policy of the program in an assigned region; and ability to mediate for case resolution. Requires regular attendance to statewide staff and regional meetings, as well as evening training. Conducts and facilitates regional meetings and trainings. Requires frequent travel throughout the Midlands Regions and occasional statewide travel. Position may require overnight travel, working evenings and/or weekends, and routine driver duties. Must be able to lift at least 25 pounds.
