Job Responsibilities

The Department of Mental Health is a drug-free workplace.  All candidates will be required to pass a mandatory pre-employment drug test.
 
This position is located at the Department of Mental Health Crafts-Farrow, 7901 Farrow Rd, Columbia, SC 29203.

Under general supervision inspects, identifies and ensures timely correction of deficiencies relating to environmental, life safety, assurance, patient advocacy and regulatory agencies. Inspects and reviews status of projects as assigned. 

Liaison to DIS for Joint Commission issues, meets with all DHEC, CMS and Joint Commission Inspectors during licensure inspections and accreditation surveys. Corresponds with the South Carolina Department of Mental Health (SCDMH) Fire Marshall/DIS Safety Compliance Manager with regards to Fire Life Safety issues connected to Physical Plant Service/Maintenance. Responsible for the testing, repairs and documentation of all Fire Safety Systems for SCDMH in Columbia. Collecting quotes for testing of Fire Life Safety Systems (Fire Alarm Systems, Hood Suppression Systems, Fire and Smoke Damper Testing). 

Supervise, assign, review completed work of subordinates in after hours troubleshooter maintenance, repair assignment, emergency light testing and documentation book for all SCDMH Columbia locations, and semi-annual fire barrier inspections and documentation at all buildings/facilities where patients house or may use on a normal frequency at SCDMH Columbia locations.

Receives all testing documentation checking them thoroughly for completeness and filing them in each facility documentation book. Gathers quotes for found deficiencies and schedule repairs of Fire Life Safety equipment to be completed in a timely manner. Files the repair documents in the facility documentation book with correlating inspection. 

Perform other related duties as required. 

Minimum and Additional Requirements

State Requirements: A high school diploma and trade experience that is directly related to the area of employment.

Agency Requirements: High school diploma and four (4) years of building maintenance experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Considerable knowledge of the tools, equipment and materials used in building maintenance, techniques, methods, and practices of the trade. The ability to interpret blueprints, plans, and specifications. Must have good communication and supervisory skills

Additional Comments

Work involves performing skilled duties in the maintaining of building and building equipment. Employee will be required to climb ladders, stoop, bend and lift in excess of 50 pounds. Employee required to work in a variety of environments. Must be willing to work overtime, on-call, and emergency situations.
