Performs routine and complex tasks associated with driving a 15-passenger van for recreational trips for the Town of Erie's Active Adults program.  Responsible for customer safety while conducting and supervising trips.

Summary of Duties

The below list is intended to be illustrative of the responsibilities of the position and not all encompassing. The Town may change these duties at any time. Specific duties are dependent upon the area assigned:

  • Drives Town-owned vehicle or other vehicle as assigned to and from destinations.Operates assigned motor vehicles safely and obeys all applicable traffic laws.
  • Conducts pre-post trip inspections of assigned vehicle and completes a safety checklist.Reports any vehicle performance or maintenance issues.
  • Ensures vehicle is ready for use including, but not limited to, obtaining keys, filling with gas, and cleaning vehicle upon return.
  • Organizes boarding procedures and provides aid to all passengers entering and exiting vehicle.
  • Attends and participates at venues with group; remains in contact with and accompanies group and / or assists as needed with tasks or logistics such as ticketing, check-in, communication regarding departure times or other trip related tasks.
  • Proactively assures continual customer safety during all phases of each trip. Ensures the safety of guests and program participants by enforcing all rules and policies.
  • Manages trip timeline to adhere to admission times, reservations, deadlines, tour schedule and departure times and other related steps.
  • Provides feedback to staff regarding trips and makes suggestions for improvement.
  • Maintains frequent communications with other staff within the Community Center and Division and reports any issues or concerns to supervisory staff as needed.
  • Provides exceptional guest service and represents the Town in a positive manner in all situations.
  • Maintains program related records and reports including accurate trip data.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • One years of related work experience or training
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Must successfully pass all required employment screens that may include but not be limited to:
    • Drug screen
    • Criminal Background Check

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Valid CDL with passenger endorsement license and satisfactory driving record.
  • First Aid, CPR and AED certification.
Conditions of Employment 
  • Pre-employment Drug Testing (Including Marijuana)
  • Complete and pass a Background Check

  • Working knowledge of laws relating to the operation of motor vehicles which transport passengers.
  • Knowledge of active adult services and needs.
  • Knowledge of recreation related Department, Town, County, State, and Federal policies and procedures.
  • Ability to safely and legally drive a 15-passanger van under ideal conditions as well as while multiple distractions and stressful situations are occurring.
  • Ability to drive as effectively during daylight as nighttime hours, and to read and follow a road map.
  • Ability to maintain a safe driving record.
  • Ability to load and unload van passengers, including passengers in wheelchairs.
  • Ability to operate and work in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to use Town gas pumps.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, peers, Town staff, and the general public.
  • Ability to effectively present verbal and written information to and respond to questions from individuals and groups of Town staff, volunteers, and the general public.
  • Ability to perform first aid, CPR and other medical attention as needed.
  • Ability to communicate, follow and enforce all rules, regulations and policies.
  • Ability to recognize safety hazards and sanitation issues and to notify supervisors.
  • Ability to complete and maintain well-organized daily records, logs and incident reports.
