Description

This is an entry-level professional planning position in the performance of planning activities and operations.Work involves assisting in the execution, development and implementation of the short range and long range work programs, projects and studies. Employees work with relative independence on routine activities and operations and exercise increasing latitude with respect to initiative and judgment as experience is gained. 

Examples of Duties

Prepares technical documents regarding zoning and development proposals by public and private entities; accepts zoning applications and ensures that they are complete and the correct fees are obtained;  posts and retrieves zoning signs on applicant's property, and performs zoning inspections; assist customers at the counter, over the phone, via email or regular mail, and through fax with planning inquiries and questions; attends meetings and public hearings as assigned; reviews zoning files and zoning map to ensure accuracy; prepares zoning verification letters as assigned; reviews sign applications for compliance with County and City of Stockbridge Ordinances; may coordinate review of development plans with other County, State, or Federal Departments after obtaining approval from the Chief Planner of Short Range Planning; assists with the duties of the Long Range Planning function as assigned; performs related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university having a Bachelor of Science degree or higher with major course work in Urban and Regional Planning, Geography, Public Administration or related field.

Any equivalent combination of related training and experience may be considered.

Possession of a Valid Georgia Drivers License.

Knowledge, Skill, Abilities/ Supplemental Information

Knowledge of principles, methods and practices of urban planning; knowledge of sources of information, current literature and recent developments regarding urban planning; knowledge of effective research techniques and statistical methods; ability to prepare written reports and make public presentations; ability to use personal computers and various standard software packages; appropriate skills in reviewing site plans, preliminary plats, development and building plans and surveys; knowledge of zoning and subdivision requirements.

Annual Leave

Annual Leave (vacation) is earned as follows:

  • 0 months – 5 years: 10 days per year
  • 6 years – 15 years: 15 days per year
  • 16 years – 20 years: 20 days per year
  • 21 years and over: 23 days per year

Sick Leave is earned at the rate of one day per month for a total of 12 days per year.

Employees receive nine paid holidays per year.

Insurance benefits are offered to employees working over 32 hours per week.

New employees are eligible for insurance coverage on the first day of the month following one full month of employment.

Blue Cross Dental coverage is provided free to the employee. Employees can enroll spouse and children up to age 26 for $51.28 per month.

Retirement is managed by GEBCorp. Employees are required to contribute a percentage of annual salary for the Defined Benefit Program. Also available is an optional 457b Deferred Compensation Program.
