DESCRIPTION

Requires: High School plus 2-6 years experience or equivalent college training. Employee performs beginning-level (1) to complex level (3) inspections of the physical plant, property, operational procedures and records of public utilities, licensed motor carriers, railroads and pipeline operators regulated by the Public Service Commission (PSC). The work may involve exposure to hazardous materials and work environment. Travel in a designated region of the state is required.
Note: Appointments are usually made at Level 1. Appointments may be made at the 2 or 3 level depending on the position and the needs of the agency. The announcement is not for a specific vacancy but is used to build an applicant pool for possible future vacancies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Training for Level 1, 2, 3: Graduation from a standard high school or the equivalent.

Required Experience:
For Level 1:
Two years paid experience in criminal justice, law enforcement, engineering, operations, maintenance, safety, inspection or investigation which MUST include work with a public utility or an industrial power distribution system, railroad, trucking fleet, a pipeline operator, or in certified law enforcement.

For Level 2: Four years paid experience as described above.

For Level 3: Six years paid experience as described above.

Substitution: Accredited college credit hours with an official major in criminal justice, law enforcement, engineering, engineering technology, safety or industrial hygiene may substitute for the required experience at the rate of 2.5 semester hrs or 3.75 quarter hrs equals 1 month of experience. To find equivalent experience divide your credit hrs by 2.5 or 3.75. Ex.: 36 sem hrs = 36/2.5 = 14 months (rounded). You need 30 sem hrs to substitute for 12 months (1 yr) of experience. A college degree in one of the majors above may substitute for up to 4 years of the required experience.

The annual increment is $60 for each full year of qualifying service, and is paid in July of each year. This is available to employees with 3 or more years of service.
