Arrowhead Regional Medical Center (ARMC) is recruiting for Sterile Processing Technicians I who are responsible for decontaminating, sterilizing, inspecting, testing, packing, and issuing medical supplies, equipment and instruments. Duties include ensuring all returned medical and surgical equipment, supplies and instrumentation are operable; selecting appropriate cleaning agents and decontamination processes; identifying and assembling medical and surgical instrumentation and supplies using count sheets; assembling instruments and supplies for surgery or case/specialty cart procedures using pick lists; and creating and maintaining accurate equipment tracking, inventory, sterilization, and testing records and logs.
 
The eligible list established by this recruitment may be used to fill extra-help and regular vacancies as they occur, while the list remains active.

  CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
 
Background: Applicants selected for these positions must pass a background investigation which includes fingerprinting and verification of employment history. 

Physical:  Physical agility requirements include good vision and color discrimination; fine hand manipulation and finger dexterity in both hands; working and/or reaching above and below shoulder level; using either foot to operate foot controls; ability to move up to 50 lbs. manually or with assistance.

Environment:  Work environment involves exposure to electricity, chemicals, infectious materials, heat, and odors.

Appointment: Extra-help positions are in the Unclassified Service and serve at the discretion of the appointing authority. The positions participate in the County's Part-time Seasonal Temporary (PST) Deferred Compensation Plan and do not earn any other benefits. Candidates selected for Extra-help positions are not precluded from being considered for full-time positions and may remain on the list for full-time employment.

Minimum Requirements

Candidates must qualify under one of the following options:

Option 1: Six (6) months of experience, within the last five (5) years, in an acute care hospital operating sterilizing equipment and cleaning surgical instruments and equipment.
 
Option 2: Successful completion of a Central Service Technician/Sterile Processing Technician or Surgical Technician course within the last eighteen (18) months from a school accredited by the International Association of Health Care Services Material Management (IAHCSMM) OR the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) OR PERDUE.
 
Option 3: Certification from the International Association of Health Care Services Material Management (IAHCSMM) OR the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) OR National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) OR Association of Surgical Technologists (AST).

Desired Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess one (1) year of recent experience sterilizing equipment and cleaning surgical instruments and equipment in an acute care hospital, and maintain knowledge of new technology and techniques in the industry.

The Sterile Processing Department operates 24/7, and requires services for all shifts; therefore the ideal candidate will be flexible with their availability and roles in order to support team members to achieve success.
