Description

The City of Anaheim Community Services Department is seeking Part Time Recreation Leaders for the Pearson Park Amphitheatre working as a Facility Attendants, Ushers, and Concessions.  This is a part-time  seasonal position working 10 - 20 hours per week during the months of March through October.  Hours may include weekends, evenings, and some holidays. No minimum number of hours is guaranteed.

Essential Functions

The following functions are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed functions and/or may be required to perform additional or different functions from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.
  • Under close supervision, this position assist with Amphitheatre set-ups, assists patrons and groups during facility use and performs general theater maintenance. 
  • Assist customers at concession counter, and stock inventory as needed.
  • Serve as an usher in Amphitheatre during performances.
  • Monitor proper use of facility.
  • Assist in planning, organizing and leading a variety of indoor and outdoor program activities and/or systems at one or multiple sites; prepare and set up program sites and daily activities.
  • Prepare concession food and supplies for customers. 
  • Evaluate, assess, and monitor facilities and field conditions at program sites; provide users and prospective users information regarding the use of the facilities; monitor the use and care of program equipment and supplies; assist in the inspection of facilities for safety and cleanliness; inform supervisor of facility hazards or when equipment needs replacing.
  • Assist with cleaning and maintenance of the Amphitheatre.
  • Maintain a safe program environment for participants, facility users and staff.
  • Care and maintain all equipment issued.
  • Inform supervisors of hazards or when equipment needs repair or replacing.
  • Assist with games and activities for program participants; coach and teach gym sports activities, sportsmanship and rules of conduct to program participants, and operate electronic scorekeeping equipment; officiate youth gym sports as needed.
  • Assist in providing customer service to internal and external customers; assist customers with registration; answer phones, take messages, and provide information to the public.
  • Assist customers in person with questions.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to our internal and external customers.
  • Greet customers at multiple sites and record facility attendance; assist with preparing reports, records, roll sheets, award lists and rosters.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

Qualifications

  • Basic principles relating to recreational leadership, early childhood development and/or education techniques, and customer service.
  • Knowledge of principles relating to recreation activities and theater performance is desirable.
  • Assist in planning, implementing and coordinating assigned recreational program operations and activities; assist in planning and preparing recreational activities, reports, and other related program materials.
  • Understand the organization and operation of recreational programs and facilities necessary to assume assigned responsibilities.
  • Understand and apply facility use policies and procedures.
  • Ability to enforce rules and regulations with facility patrons and guests.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Experience working with and communicating effectively with the general public and co-workers.
  • Provide courteous assistance to facility patrons.
  • Lift and move tables and chairs and arranging facilities for community events and/or meetings.
  • Maintain facilities and equipment n a clean, safe, and secure manner.
  • Maintain accurate logs, records, and basic written records of work performed.
  • Use English effectively to communicate in person, over the telephone, and in writing.
  • Foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Cash registering experience is desirable.
  • Must be willing and able to work on a ladder.
  • Must be able to lift or move 30-80 lb. equipment.
  • Must be able to obtain or complete California Food Handler Card by date of appointment.
  • Possession of a current (less than two years) tuberculosis clearance slip.
  • Possession of a valid California Driver's License by date of hire.
  • Must be able to obtain a work permit prior to appointment if under the age of 18.

Supplemental Information

This is a part time position usually averaging 10 - 20 hours per week.  A minimum number of hours is not guaranteed.

RETIREMENT – Anaheim employees become members of the California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS).
 
Employees hired prior to or after January  1, 2013, who are an existing CALPERS member or a member of an agency with reciprocity with the City of Anaheim, will be enrolled in the 2.7% @ 55 CalPERS retirement benefit formula.  Employees’ contribute 4.75% on a pre-tax basis for this enhanced retirement benefit.

Employees hired after January 1, 2013
, who have never been a CALPERS member, or is a member of a retirement system (CalPERS or reciprocal) but has a break in service longer than six (6) months, will be enrolled in the  2% @ 62 CALPERS benefit formula.  Employees contribute 6.75% of the normal benefit costs for this retirement benefit.

 

Members are eligible for a pension at retirement with five or more years of full – time equivalent service and age 55. 
 
DEFERRED COMPENSATION PLAN (457): The City of Anaheim enrolls part–time 20-Hour employees in a Deferred Compensation Plan (457). Employees contribute 7.5% of their earnings (before taxes).
 
Part time 30-hour and 20-hour Employees hired after March 31, 1986 pay 1.45% contribution towards the Medicare Plan. The City does not participate in Social Security.
